Breaking the Silence on Todd Bentley Extramarital Affair

Todd Bentley, the Canadian evangelist who led the controversial “Lakeland Outpouring,” is involved in an “unhealthy relationship on an emotional level with a female member of his staff,” according to the board of directors of Bentley’s Fresh Fire Ministries (FFM). The female’s name and age were not disclosed. Neither FFM nor the Bentleys could immediately be reached for comment.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Aug 17/ THE VOICE magazine: Advancing Christian Life & Culture

“Discerning Christians recognized the tell tale signs of a disaster in the making at the Lakeland Revival. We’ve seen these sorts of tragedies occur time and time again in the Body of Christ over the decades,” said publisher of The Voice magazine.

“We all hoped to see a different outcome here, but the fruit of Bentley’s personal life reveals he was not ready for the level of public ministry he received and that he should never have been commissioned in an internationally televised ‘apostolic alignment commissioning service.’ Stepping down is an appropriate move in the right direction. Our concern is not only for the Bentleys, but the thousands of people around the world who are questioning everything they saw on God TV from the meetings at the Lakeland Revival. A lot of healing is going to be needed in the days ahead and many questions answered.”

No further details are currently available concerning the “unhealthy relationship” however Bentley’s board issued a formal statement:

“Todd Bentley has agreed to step down from his position…and to refrain from all public ministry for a season to receive counsel in his personal life,” FFM’s board said in a published statement. “We are deeply saddened by these recent events, but it hasn’t shaken our faith…” FFM’s board indicated the ministry will continue Bentley’s vision, but did not offer additional details concerning the restoration process or its timeline. Bentley’s leadership team includes Ken Greter, Michael Bullet and Valerie Andres, however it is not clear whether these people including Barbara Rail and Archie Binnie also make up the board of directors.

A review of Bentley’s itinerary reveals he is not attending a previously scheduled “One Night Only Revival” planned for August 16. The “Outpouring in Birmingham, England with Todd Bentley” has also been “postponed.” However, Bentley is still scheduled to minister on September 17 and September 26 at conferences with David Hogan, John Paul Jackson and Ryan Wyatt. Meanwhile DVDs touting “The Best of the Florida Outpouring” are being promoted on Fresh Fire Ministries’ home page.

Well that explains a lot. I have seen a lot of false teachers fall quickly for God will not allow them to stand for too long if people are to be deceived. God can not judge the world until he bring judgement upon his house first.
I pray for him and the family.
    God bless.

^By the way I don’t mean to come off as judging in that last post, if that’s how I came across I apologize.
However we really need to be careful in these last days as many will be deceived. I really pray that God will give us the gift of discernment of spirits, ESPECIALLY in these times. I am not speaking about Todd, but in general. I pray that all my Christian brothers and sisters have this gift. I love the Bentley family and continue to pray.

    Thank You,

We do not need to judge one another, but we do need wisdom and PURE discernment. People who have sense in the spirit are aware of inuendose, signs and sensations the holy spirit gives.
If it is fact that Todd Bentley was acting inappropriately, then he should step down and be counceled and restored. It should not be through mans hand but through and by the leading of the HOLY SpIRIT, who is welll able to discern right form wrong. TIming should be just and not overburdensome. We cannot afford to allow our nature that likes to see someone pay for what they’ve done wrong until “WE” are saatisfied.
I believe it is also an hour that those of us who sense and know things others don’t see hear sense or pick up on, be very careful with our discernment, actions and thoughts. It is GOd who ultimately judges and taked vengence. We must be sure we shoot straight are fair and just. This should be our prayers.
I pray we see this man soon healed and restored. The “BODY” is in Dire need of ones with beautiful gifts from heavens realm and the annointing to pour it out to change lives.

Remember we ALL fall short of the GLORY and if any man says he does not sin he is a liar and his Father is the Father of lies. So lets be sure we opperate in and through the pure giftings of the holy spirit.

IF it were not for GOD ( the Holy Spirit ) there go I !!!!! Right??!!!

    Thank YOU,

    BArbara

Is this (REALLY) about Todds failure? Or…
Is this God showing us a list of weak un-discerning Apostolic ministries to steer clear from?

Was this God’s “disqualification” of those Apostles?

I have seen some worrying responses to this situation. We all love to sit in glass houses and throw stones. I dare not ….because as my wise Mother used to say ….. but for the Grace of God ….there go I. I think this teaches us very very clearly that we MUST ALWAYS be praying for people in leadership ….it is our responsibility as per scripture …..if we prayed for them more then maybe more people wouldnt find themselves in these situations. It is a pressure cooker being a leader and the enemey is looking to bring down leaders so people can jump all over Christianity and say …SEE …theyre just hypocrites.
Scripture tells us : Ephesians 6: 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the strategies of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.
James 2: 12 & 13 So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty. For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
Dear Lord , please restore this man and this family and glorify your name.

If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone…John 8:7

I was in Mrs. Bently’s place. We’re all sinners saved by grace. But God won’t be mocked by ANYONE. Gifting doesn’t excuse lack of character. Pride comes before the fall…

  8. 8 Steve Aug 19th, 2008 at 12:34 pm

The Apostle Paul wrote at the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in Galations 6:1-5 Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. For each one shall bear his own load.

Our brother in Christ has been overtaken by immaturity, pride, and the lust of the flesh that wars against the Spirt of God in all of us. We now have a clear choice, to forgive and intercede for Tod and his family or judge him and crucify him to please our flesh. As for me and my household, we will follow the Lord of Hosts and offer up the sacrifice of prayerful intercession lest we be overtaken in like kind. The world is supposed to no us by our love for one another and thereby know Christ in us. I for one desire God’s forgiveness and mercy and the not the judgement and justice I so clearly deserve. How about the rest of you?

Do you guys still read the Bible ? I guess yes. OK.
Have you read Psalms ? I guess so.
Do you know King David´s story. uuuhhh I think you do.
And he was called a man with a heart for God. Remember, do not judge, because, the way you judge, you will be judged. And that is in the Bible too.

Just pray for him and his family. Let God to be God, and do what is your duty: love each other, pray for each other. Have all your expectations in God, not in Todd. He is human like us, he´s not perfect and nor are we.

Come on, stand for your brothers once in your lifetime.

i think the devil is using evry possible oppotunity to get the lords poeple to fall and loose the way…. please lord jesus protect us cover us give us and give us ur strength in this end time… to stand firm on ur word . amen

^5 for the comments made by Steve and Katrina……..lets come together as the body of Christ…. enough of this division! Just as a reminder: Didn’t Jesus come to forgive our sins? Only God the Father should be the one in the “judgement seat”……. time to step down my brothers and sisters…… you know that saying…… let go and LET GOD! Join together in prayer for the restoration of this family. I know Todd Bentley has a heart after GOD, I have seen him yeild to correction before and believe that this is just another purifying test for him. Protection over his family in the name of Jesus!

  13. 13 hurt Aug 19th, 2008 at 4:47 pm

I have never seen such random perversion going on in the church like today. Good being called evil and evil called good. As an AOG member
I have seen the senior pastor accused of exposing himself to 3 children. Two praise and worship leaders expecting out of wedlock. My daughter was molested by the youth pastor and all these things were swept under the rug.when there is sin in the camp trying to hide
we need discernment gifts more than ever. But what is at the head trickles down to the body. God send us true men of God to lead us.
And when it’s sin admit it’s sin and deal with it!

  14. 14 Glenn Aug 19th, 2008 at 6:42 pm

There is an error that I see running through many of the comments. It is the judgmental statement telling other not to judge. Actually, when people tell others not to judge they are judging the people themselves or they would not make the comment. I am not saying that it is always wrong to warn people not to judge because there is great responsibility and accountability that go with it. But let me get to the point.

The Bible clearly commands us to judge and when we say otherwise we are giving proof that we either do not know the Scriptures or have been influenced by moral relativism and the secular lie of tolerance. We are commanded not to judge the motive of people’s hearts because only God knows the hearts of men. But we are instructed again and again in various ways to judge the fruit of people. Think of it like this: if we applied to our government this same principle that so many wrongly use that we are not to judge then we would have total anarchy. Every dimension of our country would fall apart. This is the end result of moral relativism—do not judge and be tolerant to all except those who will use their minds and disagree with the status quo. If we apply the “do not judge” belief to the church then we would also have anarchy. There would be no way to know right from wrong, no way to know a false teacher or prophet, no way to discipline a brother or sister that is in sin. Besides, there would be no need to discipline anyone because no one can judge another. This is madness!

Jesus told us to, “Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment” (Jn. 7:24). This means that we can judge righteously, which is absolutely necessary for the life and health of the church, individual believer and, on a secular basis, a nation. We need to examine the Scriptures on what it says about judging and strive to live the Word, not our opinions. Again, we are not to judge the heart of a person. But when the fruit and character is made manifest we are supposed to judge whether it is for disciple sake, to know whether or not a person is a genuine believer, or to determine a person’s gifts and use them in ministry. Judging goes both ways, that which deals with sin or that which looks at the good of a person. To reject the one we must reject the other also. This is why moral relativism is so illogical, destructive and hypocritical.

In relation to Todd Bentley, he has sinned. That is a fact. How can I say that, because the fruit of his life speaks it loud and clear. To not judge him is not an expression of authentic love, because love will cause us to do all we can to see this man reconciled to God and to his wife and children. Reconciliation always comes through repentance, for without repentance there can be no reconciliation. To call a person to repentance we must judge righteous judgment and for it to be righteous it must be motivated with Christian love that works for reconciliation. To not judge a person in sin is damnable because it leaves the person in their sin and causes others to think little of sin which leads to compromise. Christ’s love working though us will compel us to judge righteously which comes only through brokenness and humility, never out of anger, bitterness or self-righteousness.

There is so much more on the subject of judging, but this is as far as I will go. We need to be like the Bereans that searched the Scriptures to know the truth (Acts 17:11). Then we need to apply it to our lives no matter the cost.

My husband informed me today of this tragedy. My heart is very sadden, for Todd and his family. I speak out of a deep place within me, because of my past and my adultery. I am married to a wonderful Godly man who just happens to be a minister also. Over a year ago I was unfaithful to him and I wanted out of our marriage also at that time. But, Our God is such and amazing and gracious God. My Husband fought for our marriage, which we had been married for 24 years. In the middle of the night I would hear him crying out to God asking Him to save our marriage and me not wanting any part of it. We went though marriage counseling, much hurt, lost trust, facing the whole church we attend, shame, the hurt in our children’s eyes and emotions. To a total restoration in our marriage, in our selves and our children. We have found a love that we have never had before and a strength in each other that we have never seen or desired to see in each other before. God is a restore of everything. Todd is a mighty man of God and anyone that would say anything different should be very careful. The reason Todd and his family was attacked so severely is because he was willing to step out and believe God would do what he said he would do in the lives of His people. Praise God for a Man like that. How among us has been this bold in a very long time? And who is crazy enough to think that the enemy is not standing around the corner to trap or trip us up with our weaknesses..We all have them..the thing is …. we are not all in the spot light so ours can be exposed so publicly. Our brother has had a set back now it’s time for his family to come together and stand against the Enemy and believe for total restoration for Todd and is family. That they will see the value of there family and children and God will take them back to the place of remembrance of what caused them to fall in love with each other and they will not let go of that and their relationship will be better then it ever was. They will fight and not give in to the enemy, Todd you and your family have the VICTORY and we believe in you and your ministry. Don’t let the enemy rob what God has done and given you!!!

  17. 17 Glenn Aug 20th, 2008 at 8:37 am

A thought I have seen often come up in relation to moral failures of leaders is that since they were doing God’s work that the devil attacked them and brought them down. This is not true! To make such a statement is to exalt the devil and degrade God. The Lord has no problem in keeping his own if they want to be kept. Those who want to walk near to Christ will walk near to Him no matter what trials come their way. The devil CANNOT make us sin. We sin because we choose to sin. James told us that, “each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers” (James 1:14-16).

Todd Bentley sinned because he wanted to sin. That is what the Scriptures clearly teach. Bentley made claims that the Lord told him that there was nothing contrary in his life (I have seen the video clips). Obviously, either Jesus or Bentley lied. I happen to believe that it was Bentley. This means that this vision was either a vision of his own heart, a con or from hell because God cannot lie or make an error. Add to his sin of adultery his gross doctrinal errors and you have the proof that he is not the man of God so many claimed him to be. Character matters!!! And the character of a person will always been seen in times of stress and trial. I do not say this to condemn the man, but so we are not deceived in why he sinned or why we sin. Sin is always a willful choice. Always!!! If we blame others for our sins then there is no hope of forgiveness or overcoming them. This is what Adam and Eve did. Adam blamed God and Eve, Eve blamed the serpent and the serpent laughed. Their sin was their sin. The serpent did not make them do it. Just as there was no repentance with Adam and Eve, there has been no repentance from Bentley. Those in ministry who disgrace Christ before the world and harm the church with false doctrines and moral failure are obligated to make public confession.

Another problem that is commonly presented over this issue has to do with the downplaying of sin. Not that long ago anyone in an affair would have been permanently removed from ministry. But because we no longer look at sexual sins, or sin in general, as God does we do not think it a big deal (notice what the Bible teaches about adultery). And because we no longer fear God we play with sin and justify it in others. We should want Bentley to be reconciled to his wife. This is God’s will. But we must understand that this is not his first affair, which reveals more clearly the quality of his character. How much sin can a minister commit before he is unfit for ministry? What sins disqualify a person for ministry? The Scriptures teach that there are wages for sin. If a single girl gets pregnant then repents of her fornication does the baby disappear? No. There is consequence to sin. If a man murders someone and he repents while in prison should the prison authorities let him go free? No. There are consequences to sin. So it is with each of us. Bentley does not have a different standard to live by then what ever Christian on this plant is called to live. There are sins that disqualify people for certain types of ministry. How many parents would want a convicted pedophile being their children’s pastor? There are consequences to sin.

Let me close with a powerful quote from Charles Spurgeon. “Christian, beware how thou thinkest lightly of sin. Take heed lest thou fall by little and little. Sin, a little thing? Is it not a poison? Who knows its deadliness? . . . Sin, a little thing? It girded the Redeemer’s head with thorns, and pierced His heart! It made Him suffer anguish, bitterness, and woe. Could you weigh the least sin in the scales of eternity, you would fly from it as from a serpent, and abhor the least appearance of evil. Look upon all sin as that which crucified the Saviour, and you will see it to be ‘exceeding sinful.’”

  18. 18 Candice Aug 20th, 2008 at 9:42 am

I so agree with your comments Glenn. Thank you for putting this whole situation in the right perspective!! This whole thing of supposed “judging” is not right. We are called to judge according to God’s word. That does not mean that I am saying I am sinless or not a sinner. When Todd Bentley chose to proclaim and say the things he has been saying I feel that he is called to be judged according to God’s word… not mine or anyone elses. What about all of the people that went to the revival and poured our their money and hearts to this man? Why are so many people defending him? He CHOSE to say he was sent by God and had all these healing powers. Why are more Christians not looking into scripture to see that he was not of God? Instead those of us who have been saying he was not of God are told that we are so judgemental and wrong in questioning his motives. I knew that in time the Lord would allow for the real Todd Bentley to be exposed because His word says so. God is a God of restoration and healing and I believe a lot of people are praying for Todd that if he is truly one of the Lord’s that this will happen.

    Always amazes me that good people forget the teachings of Our Lord - who said in John 16:33;

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Tribulation - another word for troubles… There was only one that was/is perfect - the rest of us must wait for that awesome day - and remember to forgive - and then “Get Over It” when a brother or sister slips..

Cheer up! The Son hasn’t gone out of business.
    KEEP YOUR LIGHT SHINING

What can I say, except this is what makes me want to go into a dark room, eat a box of brownies, and watch All My Children. So many believers still bad-mouth anyone that’s moving in power. Todd Bentley is a great man of God and he’s proving it by all the criticism that’s happening. Most of you out there couldn’t heal a mosquito much less a real ailment and that’s why you can’t keep your mouth shut! Your so full of envy. But little do you know you’ve already disqualified yourselves from the greater things of God because instead of praying for this man, you dare to put your mouth on him.

  21. 21 CT Aug 20th, 2008 at 12:48 pm

So tragic are the ways of all men.
So reckless are our hearts under pressure.
Save God’s grace and mercy, we’d all be exposed for our fallen nature.

One thing I’ve not read here is accountability.

    Who was Todd accountable to?
What was the chain of command that allowed this brother to develop this relationship without being seen?
How was this man allowed to burn the ministry candle at such a rate as to weaken himself to this point. And how could those around him, in the light of the history that just about every “revivalist” in a few hundred years has fallen this way, have not been standing firm guard around his family and camp?

Man will sin. There is no getting around that. But ministries that do not set up a proper accountability guard around their leaders, that is transparent, set themselves up for the great “cover up”.

Over and over and over this happens from Sampson, to David to leader after leader, the bigger they are, the more they will move towards isolation from the ranks. It must be stopped before they start that slippery slope.

Is the beginning of the end, the fact that so many psudo independent ministries have a board of directors, or elders or advisory board that are “best friends” or “fans” or “paid employees” of that ministry?

Study the history’s of fallen ministries and their chains of accountability.

If this is one of the roots of this kind of problem in ministries and churches so prevalent in the last 100 years then how can the body of Christ help “correct” this from repeating over and over, almost every time there is an outpouring that moves through one of God’s precious children?

Well, a balanced life, surrendered and lived in holiness is a simple answer.

For all the men and women who gave their all to ministry, and to trying to be the most effective possible for Christ, who in the process from poverty to prosperity got sidetracked by all the shiny objects along the way, my heart - God’s heart - cries out in sadness for the falls.

They are after all, each one, his precious children and our brothers and sisters in Christ. We need to pray for deliverance, restoration and healing in our hearts and then for theirs.

It’s a no brainer that they should step down. Again their should be a group in place that loves them more than the ministry they represent and does not allow them to re-enter ministry for some time, if ever, in a leadership position. We ground our children when they do things wrong. Sometimes even lock them in their rooms and forbid them from acting that way in ‘our’ houses. That can be abuse on one end, or loving consequences to their actions to keep them from doing it again while we discuss their options and help them find ways to overcome those weaknesses. If your children have not been raised to feel accountable to you, then your words will be shallow and your kids will just move out and find another house to have their way in…

For all their downfalls and corruption, the evolution of denominations has in many ways been about trying to stave off these kinds of problems, but man has never been good at “being God”.

    So what’s the answer?
    Prevention….

I could almost bet that Pastor Bentley has something in his past that made him weak in this area. “when I say past I mean childhood”.
If you look at the top 10 ministries to fall to sexual sins and monetary abuses, you’ll find something in their early years that made them vulnerable to their final falls from grace.

So, Raise the next generations of children in homes with a father and mother who loves, nourishes, and lives out a moderate life of humble holiness before their kids. Who makes sure they are knowledgeable and protected from the predators and pimps, who does in private, what they are willing to admit to in public, who live out a lifestyle of “love” at all costs, and in a generation or so we might have young men and women in ministry (and public service) without the hidden baggage that has been destroying our leaders for so long.

    Our father….

I have watched the Lakeland revival and I have seen the many people that have received a healing. Many others have come to Jesus as well. So it just amazes me to even THINK that Todd, (coming off as such an ANOINTED man of God), would fall prey to the enemy’s SNARES as he did. I have read all of the comments that people have posted and think that Glenn is RIGHT ON THE MARK 1000$. I think that some of the comments that Heather and Ginny have said are good too. I praise Jesus for the MIRACULOUS healing that he did in Dee’s marriage in ONLY ONE YEAR. That was a VERY VERY QUICK work that only GOD could do. Let’s ALL stand in the gap for the Bentley’s and pray for TRUE CONVICTION from the Holy Spirit, CONFESSION of sin, Repentance, restoration, reconcilliation, peace, love, and for Jesus to rule and reign in EVERY ASPECT of Fresh Fire Ministries. Let’s recognize the fruit was not there. It is important to have the FRUITS of the Spirit, NOT JUST the gifts of the Spirit. Anyone can have the gifts of the Spirit but you must also have the fruit. There is good fruit and ROTTEN fruit. God will be looking for the GOOD FRUIT in his people. Galatians 5:22-23. We need to walk in the fruits of the Spirit.

DO NOT JUDGE!!!!!!!!!!! Isnt it nice to feel spiritual when one gets to say ‘’see, he is false, or of poor character” ?? You go head up a powerful revival and we’ll speak again!!! Guard your own heart and take out that PLANK from your own eye before you attempt to remove that splinter from Todd’s or any other GODLY leader’s eye!!! Do not touch my annointed!! Says the Lord of Hosts!!! Lest you be judged in the same manner!!! Be very aware and careful what you say!!!!

  24. 24 Pastor D Aug 20th, 2008 at 2:53 pm

I feel compelled to weigh in here on the recent Todd Bentley controversy.
Reading some of the posts I want to comment on 2 things.
First of all just because someone makes a poor decision and gives in to the flesh does not necessarily mean they are a false prophet or were never really from God.
The scripture itself is full of examples of men greatly used of the Lord who made errors in judgment or even gave in to outright sin. It did not discredit that they were called and annointed by God prior to such errors or that they could not be restored through repentance and accountability.(Gal.6:1)
Look at the life of King David, Moses, and Samuel to name a few.

The fact is that any one of us can choose in a moment of weakness or at any time to act in a way inconsistent with our committment to Christ. This can be in small ways that others do or do not see or it can be in obvious and glaring ways.
For one to give into sin and temptation, to be overcome in a weakness is the chance God takes in using any human vessel.
The enemy of our souls seeks without mercy to seize upon those opportunities in our lives and to capitalize upon them.
We do not lower the Scriptural standards set by Scripture just because someone has been powerfully used and annointed by the Lord. In fact for them the standards are to be held even higher. (James 3:1)
But neither do we totally write off someone who has been used by God because of their shortcomings or failure.

Just because God is using someone does not mean that they are exempt from such pressures and temptations. Nor does it mean that they are false if they should fall into such traps. Whatever the case, the Scriptural pattern and opportunity for repentance and restoration should always be pursued. Whether or not it is embraced and received is completely up to the individual’s own choice at the time that it is offered.
I pray that the testimony of Christ’s Church through this thing will be one of love, desire for restoration for those involved, and firm committment to handling thses events according to the Scriptural precedence. Holiness must be pursued and required as is fitting of those who serve the Lord.

  25. 25 Candice Aug 20th, 2008 at 4:08 pm

Read the scriptures and then watch the things that Todd Bentley has spoken that are not of God at all. To say that people are full of envy over him is ridiculous. What has been ridiculous is that so many people still believe that the reason he has fallen is because of people out there speaking out against him or that he has so much “power”. Wrong…. he chose to sin and again he is the one who put himself on a platform proclaiming all of these things he could do and rarely did you see the glory being given back to Jesus. The reason he has fallen is because God would not allow the mockery to continue. Scripture is very clear on this. Many are praying for him and praying that this time of restoration will bring him into the relationship that God has for him. One that is about God and God alone not about “Todd Bentley”.

In 1 Corinthians chapter 2, Paul is addressing spiritual maturity and wisdom and the Holy Spirit bringing us to the place where the mature believer knows the deep things of God. In verse 15 of this same chapter Paul writes, “But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.” It is imperative for the mature believer to be discerning of all things. It is the babies that are blown about by every wind of doctrine and demonstration, thus being greatly deceived. Thus, if you consider yourself “spiritual” you are commanded to “judge all things.” But, remember, that is not an in your face suspicious put your brother down kind of judgment. It is simply seeing things for what they are according to the word of God. Sadly, that is a challenge for spiritual babes who are not rightly dividing and understanding the word of God and making up their own doctrines to suit themselves. Kind of like the two-year old in the cookie jar. Seems fine to him. But, church, it is time to move on and be discerning and see things for what they are. Be led by the Spirit within you. Get so full of the Holy Spirit that you can judge what is going on in any situation. Grow up. And in that growth we can reach out and love one another and we can say to a fallen brother or sister, “Yes, you sinned. We can’t justify it. So, repent. Get your heart right with God. Be restored. And let’s walk on together.” And, don’t we all know how merciful, loving and amazing our Father is? True repentance leads to restoration and what a beautiful place that is. (However, my personal belief is that fallen ministers do change the future of their ministry. In this case I don’t know and don’t need to know all the details. God knows.)

“…keeping yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And on some have compassion, making a distinction; but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.” Jude 21-23 NKJV

I release the Fathering spirits in the body of Christ, globally, to pick up the commissioning to humbly and boldly step forward at this time for the speaking of deliverance over Todd, Shonnah and their children’s lives…. to speak by miracle level prophetic faith, the healing of their family relationships together. It’s time the Body of Christ mature and STOP the destruction of God’s vessels by the very principalities and powers, rulers from the dark domain, that WE have spoken judgement over…..it’s time to enforce the victory of Jesus by speaking blessing and healing to the Bentley family as a prophetic unit (family spirit).

  28. 28 tom Aug 21st, 2008 at 1:31 pm

Man this all seems so crazy.

We are all full of Sin! Of course he sinned! I imagine he sinned all the time. He has made a very bad choice, one that’s costly. End off. I hate all this end times, false prophet talk. I imagine they talked like that about many of the great men and women in the bible. Lets not forget David. Man he fell! And lets remember that through Christ there is no condemnation.

To all you sinners out there, and that includes me, isn’t it amazing that we can stand in God’s presence.

It’s the Spirit and the word that leads us to a place where we can experience God in new and fresh ways - drink up!

  29. 29 Tina Aug 21st, 2008 at 9:03 pm

    Guess what folks,

    King David REPENTED!

And by the way, Glenn God bless you brother! Amen!

Sadly, it appears that Joyner and some of the other so-called prophets would be defending Bentley even if he had killed someone. They would compare him to Moses or David or Paul just as Ryan Wyatt has currently compared Bentley to Christ, saying his critics are like those who cried, “Crucify him.” The sickness continues.

The common excuse — to blame God because Todd was allegedly overworked and stressed by “almost 100 days straight of constant ministry” is factually false as well as Spiritually erroneous. First, Bentley constantly took breaks from Lakeland, at first for weekends, but half-way through, he was gone for weeks at a time and guest speakers were common. Further, he did not work an 8, 10, or 12 hour shift. The services were never longer than a few hours, and most of that time was devoted to worship, not Bentley’s histrionics.

Most importantly, when God is moving, He does not overtax and weaken His people to the point they are caused to fall into sin. Instead, they are strengthened, empowered, and enlivened by the true Holy Spirit. Those of us who have been in real revival (which begins with repentance, not hype and “miracles) know that you can be involved every night for months and be surprised at the supernatural strength you find to continue in the Glory. In short, if God was really in it, Bently would not have been involved in an affair and drinking heavily while it was going on, and would not have fallen into sin in the midst of a true move of the Holy Ghost.

The obvious conclusion is that it was false from the beginning, as now verified by its rotten fruit.

  31. 31 tom Aug 22nd, 2008 at 6:00 am

Yeah, and I hope Todd does too.

It desn’t invalidate all that went on just becasue he ended up running to another woman, God turns things round, and maybe all this Todd stuff will stop now and people will focus on Jesus.

There’s a move of God going on, and it’s bigger than Todd Bentley thank the lord!

We’ve seen a lot of people come to christ recently, we’ve seen “signs and wonders” and we’ve seen a refreshing in our church - and it’s all to the glory of God

    Praise Jesus

  32. 32 tom Aug 22nd, 2008 at 6:11 am

Sorry, Just to add to that

Whatever Todd’s motives he used the name of Jesus. I praise God for that, Just like Paul did while in Prison writing to the church in Philipi. People were healed, people did become christians and in the end God will be glorified.

Out of personal interest: How do we know this was his 2nd affair? I’ve searched for info, and only found 1 quote, nothing official, and how do we know this will end up being a physical affair? Maybe I’m hoping for the best, or maybe I’m way off, but we don’t know what’s going on. I hope he’s confessed before it’s gone to far.

Or maybe some of you guys know im personally?

  33. 33 Mark Aug 22nd, 2008 at 1:49 pm

To all who completely embraced in the ministry of Todd Bentley, and Todd himself, be not discouraged. Do not let this shake your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. Remember that Todd is only a man. If you raised him on too high a pedestal, that was your mistake. But men stumble, men trip, men fall – there should be no surprise in that reality – so do not let this suggest to you that God is not firmly in His heaven and in control of all.

And to all of you who were critical of Todd and the ministry, fall down on your knees and ask God to spare you from the level of temptation to which Todd apparently succumbed. You are no stronger than Todd, and perhaps no more righteous. Now is the time to lift this man and his wife & family up in the prayer that God would bring the needed healing and restoration, and that His name would be glorified as an outcome. If you believe Todd is a saint, this should be your prayer. If you believe Todd to be a false prophet, this should *still* be your prayer.

Todd Bentley’s affair is really the least of my concerns. It is true that we are ALL sinners, and have no right to “throw stones. We have no right to judge Mr.Bentley, but we are commanded in Scripture to expose the false teachings and heresy that has been taught by him.I dont know Todd’s heart, whether or not he is sincere, whether he loves Jesus…but I know his teachings are way,way off,far from antyhing taught in the Scriptures..There are all kinds of cults out there, being led by sincere but greatly decieved people.Have any ORGANIC healings actually been proven to have resulted from Bentley’s “revival?”Even if they have, would that then make false teachings OK?Of course not!!

  35. 35 Heather Nixon Aug 23rd, 2008 at 3:01 pm

Glory to God that Todd Bentley is being shown mercy and grace while receiving counseling. Nonetheless, purification before the platform is a MUST in any ministry. I am disappointed that so many apostolic and prophetic leaders of this day did not “discern” this in the beginning. I hope Bob Jones, Rick Joyner and the many other well knowns who supported Lakeland will not be the men whom work with him toward restoration. They need it as much as he does. Not only has Mr. Bentley let down his wife, family and ministry; but he has also spiritually scarred thousands who flocked to the services in which he was leading and giving “impartations.” I pray that anyone who has been deceived by this “outpouring” will be quickly healed and set back on the path to the destinies in which God originally intended for them.

  36. 36 Doug Aug 24th, 2008 at 3:46 am

    Sigh.

    May I lovingly suggest, everyone,
    that you not be short-sighted.

One affair, two affair, where does Todd go from there?
Declaring God did not inspire the Bible,
    contrary to 2 Tim 3:16
So his “special revelations” can be swallowed.
    Gulp!

Get the facts everyone, like on:
    blog.trentonadams.ca/2008/03/24/todd-bentley-patricia-king-and-emma-the-angel-of-light/

There is far worse than this one sin.
    Get the facts.

Todd is a low life a uneducated fool, he had a chance that others could only dream of. he stuck his fingers up to the christian world and mocked and laughed at them. Yes he mocked Christ and worse he pretended to minister to the weakest in our society. Ran back to the pub and got drunk and got involved with things I wont mention here. and then went up on stage and ranted for the night and then back to the pub all the whils telling us he was praying for 3 hours each day, ask any staff member about him. A Devil.
Stop this rubbish about Todd getting forgivness what type of fools are you all? what do you not get, Todd does not want forgiveness . he never did, he wants Fame and money, that is all he ever wanted. So please all you poor old suckers stop and remember there are rotten people out there, even though they talk about God.

God wanted them he would provide there needs,
Where is, or was, the talk about Grace, faith, etc please read your bibles and then you will not be supporting these evil sharks, decievers

  38. 38 Judy Aug 25th, 2008 at 8:53 pm

God is God and we are not and when we keep on our eyes on Him, we will not be swayed by man and/or set him on a pedestal and will keep in mind that we are all flesh and subject to fail. It’s appalling to see how many people who claim to be Christians forget that. It so important to remember when the self righteous Pharisees were going to stone the woman taken in adultery, that Jesus told them, the one without sin, throw the first stone and one by one, they all walked away. He was always the hardest on those with religious spirits.

When we judge one another, rather than have the compassion of Jesus and determine to love and pray for one another, we fall into Satan’s trap. Those on the front lines, are greater target’s of the enemy and are the most vulnerable to his traps and that is why is it important to hold them up in prayer. It is also important for leadership to be accountable as Billy Graham and his team were, because they knew their own vulnerability and determined to avoid even the appearance of sin.

It’s very sad, when those who claim to be Christians are the most judgmental and damaging people, and the greatest hindrance to the Kingdom of God. Why are people so ready to wound the wounded and see the worst in everything that doesn’t fit into their personal theology? Do we forget that we are the only Bible much of the world reads. What a blight it is to the Kingdom of God, to see so much controversy in the body of Christ, rather than being known by our love, which we are called to do. We do indeed need to wise in discerning what is truth and what is not, but we are not the Holy Spirit and it is His job to reveal what is true and right and leave it to Him to take care of error. When people are healed, saved, delivered, and discipled, then the great commission is being fulfilled, which we are all called to do, and first and foremost love the Lord God with all our heart and our neighbor as ourselves. How the devil must be celebrating, when he sees the body of Christ biting and devouring one another and being so quick and willing to judge, when we are clearly commanded not to judge, lest we be judged, to be merciful, so we will be shown mercy. What is the world reading, when they see all of the horrible division in God’s people?

God’s love is beyond our comprehension and we are all capable of the vilest sins, if we do not keep ourselves above reproach and connected to Jesus, so rather than shooting our wounded, we need to remember the pit from which we have been rescued, deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Jesus and pray for those who have failed and leave all of the things that we perhaps do not agree on and allow God to deal with those in sin, who is more than able to take care of it all, in His way, in His time, and for His glory. When we get high and lofty in our ability and thinking, we need to remember what happened to Lucifer and pray for forgiveness, lest we end up on his team and with him for all eternity. It’s a sobering thought.

The body of Christ needs to wake up, get up, get cleaned up, be what Jesus commissioned us to be and let God do the convicting, correcting and changing, so we will indeed be the body of Christ without spot or blemish

Matthew Chapter Five The words of Jesus

    The Fulfillment of the Law

17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

    Adultery
27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’[e] 28But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.

    Divorce
31 “It has been said, ‘Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.’[f] 32 But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery.

  40. 40 Judy Aug 27th, 2008 at 11:34 am

Isn’t it intersting as you read the different repsonses, how some are merciful, some are judgmental, some are loving, some are hateful and without any compassion. My dad used to say, “a man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still” and “you can’t change a person’s mind, until God changes his heart”. It’s also interesting how different people interpret the scriptures, some according to their own opinion and often taken out of context. One thing I do know, we are to bear one another’s burdens, pray for one another, and love one another. Did Jesus go back to heaven declaring that we would do greater things than he did, and to go into the world spreading the good news and make disciples, to love God with all that is within us and our neighbor as ourselves, or are we to go out and pick apart everything that doesn’t happen to fit into our little theology or doctrine God says vengenge is His alone and when we say damaging things against others, we are walking right into Satan’s trap. Self righteousness in the body of Christ is right down obnoxious, and one of the things God hates, is sowing discord among the body, yet there are many that not only do it, but promote it. Often the people who are the most judgmental are harboring things in their own lives, they aren’t willing to deal with. I do hope and pray that we will begin to show the world that we are different from them, so they will want what we have, because we will be known by our love. Let God do the correcting and let us make sure we are in right standing with Him and for the majority of us, that will be a full time job.

Out of all the comment’s I’ve read so far, Paul had the best commentary by far! Loved it! I’ve been out of the church for 6 months now and am a bit apprehensive about going back…not because of Todd Bentley, but because of religious people. God will use this situation with Todd for good…he always does! Look at the story of King David, Solomon, etc. God uses those we least expect. He is not looking for the ones who think thier holy and righteous…He is looking to use the broken ones. The church is missing the boat with all of their so called interpretation and knowlege of the Bible. It is so refreshing to see God using someone with piercings and tatoos like Todd! This is truly what the so called “wordly” people that the people in the church refer to are going to be attracted to and have obviously perked up thier ears to listen. Sorry to tell you, but no one is listening to those who think they are holy and righteous by thier amazing knowlege of the Bible. They would rather hear from a broken man like Todd Bentley.

    Miles,

Let me add this one as well…

1Pe 3:7 Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you[fn1] of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered. ESV

    Think about it folks!

    Matthew
5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

5:27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

Leviticus 20:10 And the man that committeth adultery with another man’s wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

okay, there is a difference between being self righteous and being a righteous judge. if i want to let someone know that they are in error in an area of our faith, then by the work of God i am required to let them know. if i do not, i don’t love them. it is not self righteousness, it is love that would compel me to let this person know their error. second, i am not the kind of person who looks at someone just to point out their error, but i can’t help but see error when i know the word of God and what it says in the correct context. God is correcting the false teachers similar to and like todd by His word. so to say leave it to God, well God tells us to use His word to weigh and try the spirits. it would be ridiculous for the Lord to allow us to make the same mistake again of being naive. that is how we become vulnerable to deceit. if we look at this with apathy, then we are just as the athiests claim,… stupid. To judge the fruit in this matter is righteous and also intelligent. God ain’t stupid and He don’t want us to be stupid either. examining the messengers that come on the platforms we see will keep us alert and knowing the word of God will give you all the discernment you need. 2 2=4 and the word of God can be easily compared to any message or display of “miracles” so that we will have the knowledge and discernment to understand the difference between what is of God and what is not. i personally believe that any pastor or minister of God’s word that uses an earthly way to “relate” to a non-believer, is just using it as an excuse to compromise and do something that is already there in their heart to do. they have not really let go of the desire to love the world, so they have music, get tattoos, wear certain clothing so they can say “christians have fun too, christians are just like you.” no we are not and thank God by His grace we aren’t. I say grace with emphasis and also state that todd and any other teacher that preaches extra-biblical doctrines can be laid under God’s grace in repenting from their false form of doctrine and cling to the doctrine of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. not angels, angels, angels. why do i need angels when Christ took care of everything i need on the cross years and years ago? where is my faith? some goes to emma, some goes to me (speaking things into existence, decreeing and declaring), and God? naw man naw! let’s keep it simple our faith is to be in Christ so that through Him we can meet our Father. Paul consistently addresses the need for us all to not be complacent or apathetic and stand against false doctrine. He even publicly rebuked Peter. So for those who believe that the examination and discerning of spirits is to be left to God, simply do this, Be prepared to be decieved. If you allow the enemy to converse with you on a stage or pastoral platform, you will adapt to his ways and his doctrine. otherwise, get in the word of God, trust in what Jesus did on the cross and in ressurection for all your needs, and get out of apostasy.

With a great mixture of responses I can only assume that there are two types of Christians.
Those who watch, / read the Bible, / and speak out at false Teachers, Prophets, and (so called) Apostles.
These people usually get thrown out of the Church for speaking the truth
The other type is the praise the Lord type, whatever is happening, and when evil is exposed it is “pray for them, the poor old creatures”
And they live their lives, being led by whatever is in vogue.
    Telling others to stop judging
But where is the Watchman? He should be on the gates guarding the castles.
Looking out for the weak and lenient minded.

  48. 48 David Sep 9th, 2008 at 8:18 pm

Somewhere in the past, Todd’s heart may have been pure before the Lord like David, but I do believe the entire issue is with the spirit that was behind this outpouring endeavor.

It truly does look like God put a stop to this because TOO many people were idolizing Todd and going to him to be their mediator between God and man INSTEAD of purely going to Jesus himself.

Ministers, preachers, pastors, teachers, apostles, prophets and evangelist tend to forget the God is a JEALOUS
    God.

Bentley is a fraud and a charlatan. He is to be judged and harshly. How dare he adopt the mantle of prophet, will all the while conspire in an “unhealthy” relationship. Shame on you. . . and loss the tatoos you are gross.

Over the years I have grown from a child, teenager and adult in my church, and now am one of the pastors. Through all those years as my role increased in significance to others, I learned that your responsibility also increases. It is one thing to screw up your own life, and as a father it is even worse that your actions can affect your marriage and your children’s future.

Yet when being looked at (or looked up TO in many cases) the responsibility is WAY beyond running a family or single church - you are accountable for any hypocrosy in your life to the millions of people looking on - both Christian and non-christian.

I believe Todd can be forgiven and restored - that is after all central to the message of the Gospel, yet with Jesus being so passionately against hypocrites, anyone in this position - that being to make statements that he is physically communing with Jesus daily, and that he is receiving revelation from God himself, must be called just that - a hypocrite.

When a nearby pastor ‘fell’ in this way a few years ago near my church, the damage to the onlooking unsaved was awful, and most importantly, I agreed with their disgust. How dare we model - yes model Jesus, and portray him SO badly.

If nothing else, in the light of these sad events we should all take a look at ourselves and ask God to reveal in us hypocrisy that is just as damaging to anyone we witness to.

  51. 51 Irma Sep 22nd, 2008 at 5:43 pm

We seem to have forgotten how any enemy, at any battle, will ALWAYS aim at the leader, unfortunately the devil is so dumb, he thinks Todd is the true leader, he is only an ambassador ,but our Jesus is the head of the movement!. Too bad Todd was the target and the downfall man. But let us remember that all the enemy works for evil, God will turn it around for good. Let us lift Todd and his family in constant prayer, if we truly love like Jesus loves. If not, let us go repent, and pray for ourselves, that we may find peace in our spirit, so that forgiveness can find a space where to reside within us.
    God bless..

we can not just receive those powers that outpured. But we have to keep ourself sticket with it..and keep asking God for His guidance everywhere we go..Devil won’t let the Children of God become strong adn happy..Devil will always trying to shake us off and bring us to the choices that sometimes make us weak and receive things that offered by devil…we have to keep Pray hard for it..and also we have to Pray for the Pastors and the soldiers of God, for they could be protected and always strong and wouldn’t open the way event for devil to shakes or works in their ministry…Pray for the Soldiers of God will be survive untill the 2nd coming really happen…

I am so sad to hear about what was Todd had experience..but it doesn’t mean for us to be sad all the time or finished our journey to pursueing God. Todd is not everything..but He is everything….we have to get up and looks forward for another Greater miracles and breakthrough. God is with us always.

    Lord,
I don’t know all that is going on; I don’t know what thoughts are being thought or what actions are being taken; I don’t know what is in Todd’s heart, BUT I do know you are God and you are soveriegn!! Adn Lord none of these people who have commented on this aticle, or even the board members know fully what is going on with Todd. I know that what YOU have done through Todd’s ministry in my life has been fruitful and I know your word tells us that we will know the truth by the fruit (Matthew 7). So Lord, let there be a forgiveness in our hearts towards Todd because that is what you would have us to do and allow us to love him even more. All of this is in your hands and so we allow you to have your way. Let us not let things come from our mouths that are hurtful and crude towards Todd, for though his sin may have been more advertised, we are have all sinned and gone astray… but you are always ther with arms open wide ready and willing to forgive us!!! I love you Lord and glorify your name!!!!! LEt this be turned around for your glory!!

    Amen

What a tragedy that people do not understand that every great man in the Bible at one time fell. Unfortunately, the modern world and media hinders these men to rise above their fallen state and aspire to become even greater men as in biblical times. People once protected their leaders for the greater good because we all have come short of the glory of God. The bible says there is no goodness in any of us and our goodness is as filthy rags in the eyesight of God. The greater the gift the greater the attack. Let us show the love and foregiveness of God and pray for Todd.

There is a lot of people saying not to judge this situation or the people involved. There are two type of judging. One is looking at something and determining wheather it is good or bad. We do it in everyday life. It is the same type of judgement that we use when we decide which way to go to work every morning. People are said to have good judgement or bad judgement. 1 Cor 5:3 For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed, 12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? 13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
The apostle Paul said that in the church we are to judge if something is right or wrong.
We can honestly look at Todd Bentley and judge that he did NOT do the right thing. He is NOT qualified for Eldership in the body of Christ. Professing to have the power of the Holy Spirit while at the same time being involved in willfull sinfull activity is nothing less than taking the name of the Lord in vain. Therefore, when anyone is involved in sinful activity, their “ministry” is NOT of God!! PERIOD!!

The church lacks a lot of the discernment that is needed today. To many amatures and even unbelievers are posing as prophets, teachers, pastors, etc…..most of who are preaching on television are of the false teachers crowd. Wake up church and smell the real fire of God that will totally purge his thrashing floor.

Many times when we know what God is establishing through our lives which is awesome, big and mighty we fail to understand that, what we have is not for us or for our glory but for the body of Christ to bring glory to His name.We fail to understand the intensity of the war but this is the season when God will resurrect and restore what truely is His and for Him…..Let us with one accord rise up againts the enemy camp which is already defeated…show them that God’s work will still continue and will fulfil it’s purpose in it’s desired season……nothing can stop which is lead by the liviling God…..

My advice to anyone out there, read your Bible, pray, read your Bible. Ask Jesus everyday to give you discernment and guidance. This is just the beginning of the stuff that is going to go on.

It is truly devastating when a good man makes a mistake. I have read about many of them in the Bible…Moses was a murderer, David was an adulterer and a murderer…need I say more? God did not turn His back on these men and He won’t turn his back on Todd.

Exposing a mans sin is not a sign from God that the man is not hearing from Him. I am sure Todd will be used again by God.

It’s annoying too how people make comments like “we’ve seen this in the ‘body of Christ’. I want to scream, because the body acts like the body it doesn’t have another head while it is separated from God. If it is the body of Christ than it has to rely solely on Christ, not something else, not Todd, not Lakeland, not revivals. So I don’t believe they are part of the body.

The people are just as much responsible in my opinion as Todd. They raised him up to where he is. They gave him the level of authority spiritually and they are responsible for that. They should all step down and recognize that calling yourself a Christian doesn’t make you part of the Body of Christ. Having a form of godliness and developing your own ministry based on your beliefs doesn’t make you the Body of Christ. Having Christ as your only Head does allow you to be the Body of Christ. When you are your own authority, Christ is not your authority.

“Exposing a mans sin is not a sign from God that the man is not hearing from Him. I am sure Todd will be used again by God.”

Sin = being separated from God. How can we be separated from something and hearing from it at the same time. It means you have no connection. It means your carnality has taken you to a point where you have disconnected.

It’s not my concern how others will be used by God. It is my concern that God is able to use others. He can’t do so when they have disconnected or possibly never connected with Him.
