A woman carrying a concealed weapon shot and killed the gunman believed to be responsible for the recent shootings at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, and at Youth With A Mission in suburban Denver.
According to Colorado Springs Police Sgt. Jeff Johnson, mass murderer Murray had over 1,000 rounds of ammunition. You don’t have to be a math major to realize that with 7,000 worshipers in church that day, had it not been for Jean Assam, many hundreds of people could have been slaughtered like sitting (unarmed) ducks.
Jean Assam, who was ending a three day fast, said, “I was praying to God that he direct me in what to do in life… God made me strong… God guided me and protected me… I give credit to God.”
New Life Church Senior Pastor Brady Boyd called Assam “a real hero.”
Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America, is also applauding Assam. What’s your take? And what would you do if you were in her boots?

Hello,
This is a great opportunity for the readers of The Voice magazine to post their thoughts on these subjects. So, let’s see what the Holy Spirit is saying to the believers.
Your partner,
Jonas Clark
Well, I certainly don’t want to see our country reduced to the shoot out mentality of the old west. At the same time, since the alarming incidents of mass shootings by the hand of young people in our nation have made headlines so many times this year and this case of the church woman in Colorado is the only time one of these mad gunmen was stopped before killing more people… it certainly makes a good case for our right to bear arms.
God knows the number of all of our days. Looks like when the mass murderer was taken out, apparently his humber was up. I will not pass judgement on the woman who took him out. And I know that there are votes for and against her. However, my own personal view is that if I were in her shoes and had the responsibility to help save the people, I would have wanted to be able to try to reason with him in not doing this ghastly thing (myself being properly shielded and covered in an army tank while talking to him, of course :)). But seriously, I would hope to have avoided taking his life if at all possible. If anything had to be done to him, I would rather have wounded him instead of taking his life. But because our thoughts are not God’s thoughts, it’s possible that the taking of his life was permitted because God knew the end from the beginning regarding this entire matter.
It is a sad statement of the times, a person willing to enter a church with murder on his mind and a gun in his hand. Only God knows what the ned would have been if she had not interevened, no will ever know if it could have been different, the known fact is this, lives werer spared, period. I am not in favor of ‘packing heat’ in church, but, what if she had not had her gun whith her?
I have fasted and prayed many times over the last 40 years as a Christian. I have to say that never once at any of those times has the Holy Spirit directed me to pack a pistol to church.
I find this woman’s claims that the Holy Spirit told her to bring a gun to church just as scary as the idea of a gunman coming to church with 1000 rounds.
They say we’ll never know how many people would have died if she hadn’t been faithful to the Spirit and pack heat to the service. They’re right, we’ll never know the outcome. For all we know, instead of 1000 rounds being shot at this congregation by this man it might have only been 6 rounds from a pistol.
We don’t know the woman’s motivation for bringing a gun to church and we only have her word! What if the man holding the rifle only beat her to the punch?
There was a movie like this starring Christian Slater. “He Was A Quiet Man.” In this movie Christian Slater brought a gun to work planning to shoot his co-workers. While loading his gun he dropped some bullets and was fumbling around when another disgruntled employee stepped out with his own gun and began shooting. Christian Slater then shot the gunman and was touted as a hero!
I honestly believe, if I were a detective, I would not rest until I knew EXACTLY why this woman had a gun in church!
