Every New Year there seems to be a plethora of prophetic words sweeping the world wide web. Some are prophetic indeed while others are just plain pathetic. Every year we hear prophets prophesy disastrous events such as hurricanes, floods, fires, wars, terrorist attacks, etc. but didn’t Jesus already tell us these things would come? You decide as you read the following report by FoxNews concerning Pat Robertson’s prediction for 2008:
NORFOLK, Va. — Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson predicted Wednesday that 2008 will be a year of violence worldwide and a recession in the United States, followed by a major stock-market crash by 2010.
Sharing what he believes God has told him about the year ahead is an annual tradition for Robertson.
On Wednesday’s “700 Club” broadcast, the founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network predicted that evangelism will increase and more people will seek God as the chaos develops. Robertson said, “We will see the presence of angels and we will see an intensification of miracles around the world.”
Last year, Robertson predicted that a terrorist act, possibly involving a nuclear weapon, would result in mass killing in the United States. Noting that it hadn’t come to pass, Robertson said, “All I can think is that somehow the people of God prayed and God in his mercy spared us.”

The small and the great in life … we all have to be so careful in our walk and our talk… We have to continually, continually seek God’s guidance in all that we say and do. We should be walking as well as living in the spirit. We should only respond to certain things after we are sure we have heard from God. Mankind should not be able to force God’s people to say or do anything that we are not sure of no matter how anxious the world is for a “word”. But sometimes even the very elect will try to save face and do some things and say some things (tickling the ears) according to earthly standards so that they can keep their high places in this society. If we don’t know, we should just be truthful and say that we do not know yet. God is faithful. If we trust Him, He will let everybody know “what’s up” when He is ready for us to know anything additional; and he is NEVER late. Many times we think He is late, but Naaaww…He’s never late. He is always prompt. Our seeking, praying, praising, watching, reading His word, and being about the Father’s business is plenty to keep us on our toes everyday without making up additional stuff to worry about. Indeed, we have been forewarned in God’s word about times such as these. God can and does give revelations. We should hear them, review them, pray about them, and weigh them. We should always test the spirits. Let God’s word ALWAYS be true…
I have seen the “pathetic prophetic” more than enough. I address ambiguous and nonsense prophetic words, as well as curses and judgments, in my new book, “The Heart of the Prophetic.” Prophecy should, as the Apostle Paul laid out in his letter to the church at Corinth, edify, comfort and exhort. Exhortation includes warnings, but with every warning there is always a way of escape.
Yes, God may warn us of impending danger, but we are not helpless pawns set on earth to die the hands of terrorist or natural disasters. The gates of hell will not prevail against the Church of Jesus Christ and its authority-carrying believers.
It’s easy to be influenced by circumstances or some other spirit than the Holy Spirit. This is why all prophecy must be judged.
