Victoria Osteen is being sued by Sharon Brown. HOUSTON (AP) — A flight attendant suing the megachurch co-pastor Victoria Osteen told a jury on Tuesday that Ms. Osteen had attacked her on a plane without provocation and should be held accountable.
Ms. Osteen’s lawyer, in turn, repeatedly questioned whether any assault had ever occurred.
The lawsuit, filed by Sharon Brown, accuses Ms. Osteen of verbally and physically abusing Ms. Brown and another flight attendant when a spill on the armrest of Ms. Osteen’s first-class seat was not quickly cleaned up during boarding of a Continental Airlines flight to Vail, Colo., from Houston in 2005.
In her testimony Tuesday, the plaintiff said Ms. Osteen had approached her angrily.
“I asked her to calm down,” Ms. Brown testified under questioning by her lawyer, Reginald McKamie. “When she came to me, she was very upset,” shaking her sunglasses in the attendant’s face.
“I asked her, ‘What could I do for you?’ ” the witness said. “I did everything I thought I could do in that situation.”
Ms. Brown testified that she had remained courteous and tried to help. But, she said, Ms. Osteen pushed her against a restroom door and elbowed her in the left breast.
“I looked in her eyes and realized she was looking at the cockpit,” Ms. Brown said. “I positioned myself in front of the cockpit. I still was trying to understand what was going on, because it happened so quick. My main concern was I wasn’t going to let this lady in the cockpit.”
Ms. Osteen’s lawyer, Rusty Hardin, later asked Ms. Brown how she could have known by looking into Ms. Osteen’s eyes that she intended to go into the cockpit.
“Can you look into my eyes and tell me where I am going to go?” Mr. Hardin said, to courtroom laughter…
