OneNewsNow reports — A Texas middle-school principal widely criticized for forcing students to sit through a pro-Islam presentation without parents’ knowledge or permission has been hired by the Houston Independent School District.

As OneNewsNow reported in June, nearly 900 students at Texas’ Friendswood Junior High were required to attend a pro-Islam lecture by two representatives of the Council on American-Islamic Relations. The program presented Islamic opinion on religious issues as fact, and included directions on how to practice Muslim religious rituals. After parents and area Christian pastors complained, Principal Robin Lowe was reassigned to another position. Now Lowe has been hired as principal of the larger Pershing Middle School in Houston.

Pastor Dave Welch, executive director of the Houston Area Pastor Council, was among those who complained initially about the pro-Islam lecture. He says he is not surprised by this latest development.

“Frankly, the move of reassignment was simply a way to keep [Lowe's] record clear from any disciplinary action while she was looking for another position,” says Welch. “I didn’t doubt that that was probably the direction it was going to go. I think, however, clearly the objective was to have some consequences for her actions there, which did occur — and that’s what’s important.”

Welch says the enthusiasm for Lowe in Houston is just a symptom of the educational system’s affection for “moral relativism and multiculturalism” found in many government-run schools. He argues that the environment calls for more than just an “understanding” of different cultures, value systems, and religions.

“It’s a forced acceptance that all are equal and [that] all produce equal results — which we know not to be true,” says the pastor. “We’re not allowed to argue the point that we shouldn’t allow Islam or any other religion or belief system to be taught as an equivalent to the orthodox Judeo-Christian principles that we know produced the freedom and prosperity and peace and blessings that this country has enjoyed.”

Welch warns that the false belief that all religions and cultures are equal and produce equal results has even infiltrated some churches. “Unfortunately there are many people in this country — including many people sitting in pews — who just don’t understand the nature of … the erosion of those absolutes that were the foundation of this country,” he asserts. And Christians, he adds, must stand up for the truth that America was built on biblical values.
