Electing Godly Men and Women for Political Office by Dave Meyer

Dave MeyerIf godly men and women have no voice in the community, then by default the political life of America will stay in the hands of the ungodly.

The freedom to choose our representatives is not an American invention – it is a God-given plan for godly government. In Exodus 18:19-23, we see that Moses was advised by his father-in-law, Jethro, to “represent the people before God.” Then in verse 21, Jethro tells Moses to …choose able men from all the people – God-fearing men of truth who hate unjust gain – and place them over thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens, to be their rulers. Moses followed his father-in-law’s godly counsel, and as a result, the Lord blessed him.

In a similar way, America’s system of representation is patterned after this biblical example. In the hands of every citizen is placed the privilege and responsibility to select wise, godly men and women of integrity to represent them in the affairs of government. John Jay, who was one of the authors of the Federalist Papers and first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, said: “Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest, of a Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.”

And Noah Webster, the Founding Father of American Scholarship and Education and author of the first American dictionary, wrote: “…Let it be impressed on your mind that God commands you to choose for yourselves rulers, just men who rule in the fear of God. The preservation of a republican government depends on the faithful discharge of this duty; if the citizens neglect their duty and place unprincipled men in office, the government will soon be corrupted; laws will be made, not for the public good, so much as for selfish or local purposes; corrupt or incompetent men will be appointed to execute the laws; the public revenues will be squandered on unworthy men; and the rights of the citizens will be violated or disregarded. If a republican government fails to secure public prosperity and happiness, it must be because the citizens neglect the divine commands, and elect bad men to make and administer the laws.”

For most Americans, to abandon consistent participation in the political process is to abandon a great privilege and responsibility. However, when Christians do so it is far worse. If godly men and women have no voice in the community, then by default the political life of America will stay in the hands of the ungodly. In the words of notable philosopher Edmund Burke, “the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

So what do we need to do? First, we need to pray and ask God to motivate us as well as all Christians in America to get out and vote for godly men and women. We also need to ask Him to reveal the true character of each candidate, exposing all the masks and the misrepresentations of the ungodly presented by the media. At the same time, we can ask God to allow every godly candidate to shine forth as stars in the midst of the darkness, and that they will be protected, promoted, and provided with His divine favor. Once you’ve received direction, share the information you’ve learned with other concerned Christians, including your family, friends and church members.

Dave Meyer’s article about the election of godly men and women for political office is excellent! I agree with his thoughts. If we want to succeed and prosper in helping to advance the Kingdom, at home here in America first, then throughout the rest of the world, we “must” concentrate on selecting wise and godly men and women as our leaders. As was stated, providence has given us the choice of our rulers. We do have the responsibility and duty as a “supposedly” Christian nation to “prefer” and “select” Christian rulers. However, as we can see, people are claiming to know God and claiming to be Christians, but “proof” being shown in da puddin’ reveals otherwise. We appear to have forgotten God and turned our backs on Him.

But we “say” we are Christian. We have gotten comfy with this earthly peacefulness in this land which mankind gives (not the peace of the Lord). We conclude that we are happy, prosperous and at peace when we compare this “great nation” to the many other nations of the world which show, more often than not, much civil unrest, poverty, and violence. We boast that we are “not like them”. And we are willing to accept things said from anyone in the political arena who can sway us over to their way of thinking with their smooth tongues. They lie to us and deceive us; and we believe all their hooey and eat it up! Then, when we get disappointed, we act like we are shocked and are in disbelief that this could ever have happened to us!

We definitely do have to pray for discernment and direction regarding the seriousness of selecting our political leaders. The Bible teaches us in 2nd Tim 4:3-4 about being desirous of having itchy ears… our wanting someone, anyone to tickle or scratch our ears for us and say to us only those things that we “want” to hear. So if we are not careful to stand up for what is right in the sight of the Lord, and remember Him and remember that it is He who gave us the power and ability to get and have whatever it is that we do possess, we will get just what we deserve if we prefer to select and elect the ungodly to lead us.

Dave Meyer’s opening statement bounds out to us with a prophetic edge, as if to say “Read my lips, America.” Even if not one non-Christian American senses the urgency of his message, every Christian American must. As Christians we must value what remains of our freedom to choose those that would represent us in affairs of government. We must preserve this republic.

The spirit of bipartisanism that sweeps this nation causes people to see unilaterally, one-sidedly, not as a whole. Our enemies are enjoying it. WAKE UP,CHRISTIANS!! We can no longer afford to mask the true issues affecting our country. We must withdraw our support from any party that does not represent the will of God for our nation. We the people, along with a strong Commander-in-chief can once again satisfy God’s mandate on this nation.

No, I am not a heretic. I strongly agree with Dave Meyer and because of that I must ask this question. Is it possible that God has been preparing Himself a leader while we were praying? I believe Alan Keyes, a patriot with true grit,a statesman knowledgeable and exercised in governmental affairs and a professed Christian, is of that caliber. Go to his website, study it and consider what’s being said. (www.alankeyes.com) See you at the polls?

This article is extremely speaking the truth about a very important matter in the Christian community. I stand in faith with this message because it conveys my point of view. Multitudes of events have taken place over the years and some have taken American and other nations down a rocky path form where they stood before. America has been known to be the land of the free, but is it really? “We” the Christians should not be in bondage due to the fact that we represent Jesus Christ our lord and savior.

Corruption of the world (ungodliness) has shut the doors on us to try and prevent the word of the lord from coming out. We need godly men and women to have a voice in the community, or else the political life of America will stay in the hands of the ungodly. No longer can we stand immobile to unrighteous motions and encounters. It’s time for a Christian stand regarding the people for Christ sake. Whether it be altercating, ambulating, and standing in the gap - we need to rise up. Because the kingdom is our ambition.
