Daniel Imperato, international businessman and Independent candidate for President, is set to challenge Bob Barr for the nomination at the Libertarian Party Convention this weekend in Denver, CO. It looks to be a tough fight that gains some media attention.
Imperato, meanwhile, is pointing out differences between the Libertarian Party and the two dominant political parties, and how 2008 may just be the year that the U.S. sees a third party come of age. Ross Perot tried it. Others have tried it. But, according to Imperato, this may very well be the year it actually happens and here are some of Imperato’s reasons why:
1) The Democrat Party is offering the lesser of two liberals, neither who represent mainstream voters of America, he says.
2) The Republicans are offering two candidates, John McCain or John McCain. And America is not buying it, he said. In fact, a whopping 27% of North Carolina Republicans cast protest votes for Huckabee, Paul, Keyes or ‘no preference’ in the May 6 Primary—even after Mike Huckabee personally endorsed John McCain and called upon his supporters to do the same. In Indiana, McCain only garnered 77% of the GOP vote. As Imperato sees it, these disenfranchised voters want to vote for someone other than McCain in November.
3) Now there is word from the Ron Paul camp that his volunteers are planning a disruption of the GOP Convention. According to the Los Angeles Times, “…the forces of Rep. Ron Paul have been organizing across the country to stage an embarrassing public revolt against Sen. John McCain when Republicans gather for their national convention in St. Paul at the beginning of September.” This could severely weaken the GOP position in November, leaving the door for people to ‘jump ship’ and vote for a Third Party candidate, according to Imperato.
Is America ready to embrace the Libertarian party?

What you say might be true, except that Libertarians are very well aware that Daniel Imperato is not an “international businessman”; in fact, nothing he says can be substantiated (as you should know if you even tried to substantiate his claimed background).
Furthermore, Imperato is not even a libertarian, nor is he registered with the FEC as a libertarian, so he poses no threat whatsoever to any actual libertarian candidate. Among libertarians, he’s a joke. I mean that literally, by the way, because libertarians actually make jokes about him. For example, crazy statements are now known as “Imperatoisms”.
Then again, Bob Barr isn’t really a libertarian either, so neither of them will get the nomination.
In the end, what does it matter what that poor excuse for a party does or doesn’t do?
America operates a 2 party system, our job is to observe reality and respond.
