Islamic Nations in U.N. Plan to Criminilize Christianity

Will United Nations’ bigotry against Christians get reviewed? ‘We’ll check,’ Perino promises of ‘anti-defamation’ proposal

WorldNetDaily — A United Nations plan that would make Christians criminals under international law will be getting a review by the White House, according to spokeswoman Dana Perino.

WND reported just days ago on a proposed “Combating Defamation of Religions” program supported by the 57 members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference.

The proposal has been around since about 1999, first launched as a ban to the “defamation” of Islam. Its sponsors also have adopted the Cairo Declaration of Human Rights in Islam, “which states that all rights are subject to sharia law, and makes sharia law the only source of reference for human rights.”

Perino’s response came to a question from Les Kinsolving, WND’s correspondent at the White House. He asked, “For years, Islamic states have been trying to push through the United Nations a proposal that it’s called ‘Combating the Defamation of Religion,’ which the American Center for Law and Justice has deplored as anti-Christian bigotry, and which the European Center for Law and Justice calls [a] direct violation of international law. And my question: What is the White House position on this?”

“This is the first I’ve heard of that particular initiative. So we’ll check,” Perino said.

The American Center for Law & Justice recently announced a petition drive to generate opposition to the plan.

“Around the world, Christians are being increasingly targeted, and even persecuted, for their religious beliefs. Now, one of the largest organizations in the United Nations is pushing to make a bad situation even worse by promoting anti-Christian bigotry,” the group said.

“We must put an immediate end to this most recent, dangerous attack on faith that attempts to criminalize Christianity.”

The ACLJ petition, which is to be delivered to the U.N. High Commissioner on Human Rights, already has collected tens of thousands of names.
