When President, Obama and Pelosi Will Repeal Defense of Marriage Act

Election 2008: Marriage between a man and a woman under attack.

(CNSNews.com) – If Barack Obama is elected president, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will support him in fulfilling his vow to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which currently protects states from having to recognize same-sex marriages contracted in other states as they ordinarily would be required to do by the Full Faith and Credit Clause of the Constitution.

“Yes,” Pelosi said Thursday at a press conference, when CNSNews.com asked if she would support Obama’s policy.

The DOMA defines marriage as the legal union of one man and one woman for purposes of all federal laws. Signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1996, the DOMA protects states from having to recognize same-sex marriages contracted in other states.

Ordinarily, under the “Full Faith and Credit Clause” of the Constitution, states are required to recognize “the public Acts, Records, and judicial Proceedings of every other State.”

The “pride” section of the Obama campaign Web site reads: “Obama also believes we need to fully repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and enact legislation that would ensure that the 1,100+ federal legal rights and benefits currently provided on the basis of marital status are extended to same-sex couples in civil unions and other legally-recognized unions.”

In July 1996, DOMA passed the Republican-controlled House by a margin of 342 to 67. Pelosi voted against the bill along with 64 other Democrats.

On Thursday, Pelosi did not elaborate on her statement and her office declined to give reporters further explanation of her position.

Members of the Senate leadership, Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Ill.) and Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), were asked if they would support Obama in repealing DOMA. But both senators said they did not have a definitive position on the issue yet.

“I don’t know,” said Schumer. “We have to see what kind of legislation is introduced.”

“I want to take a look at it, I haven’t made a decision, I haven’t even thought about it,” said Durbin. “But I will look at his decision.”

Schumer and Durbin voted for DOMA in 1996 as members of the House.

The bill passed the Senate on Sept. 10, 1996 by a margin of 85 to 14.

Senate Majority Leader Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) also voted in favor of DOMA as a senator in 1996.

Every person on earth (actually, in the universe) should hustle over to Yahoo, Google etc. and look up “GOD TO SAME-SEXERS: HURRY UP.” You don’t have an educated opinion of s-s marriage if you haven’t read this web article! John

Obama claims to bring change but so did the Anti-christ in revelations. We really need for the ministers who are on television to expose these views that candidates have openly stood for. Obama says it openly in his book “Audacity of Hope” how he is fine with same sex marriage and his former church embraces it, he is also a supporter of partial birth abortion and openly said on television that he would not elect a judge who is against Roe vs Wade. I live in Indianapolis and the black christian radio station constatnly supports Obama and always talks about the economy but not about where these canidates stand on abortion or same sex marriages and major ministries as far as I have seen never address it publicly or expose the deception that is being brought into the church when Obama visits and tells them what they want to hear but know from the congregations or the pastor actually has him express his views on abortion or same sex marriage. I see that Rick Warren is supposed to have both candidates come to his church and hold a debate on poverty, and health issues. This is what my point is, some ministers are using the pulpits and candidates to draw flocks of people but are afraid to confront issues that are important to the body of Christ and that will (if allowed) bring destruction to this nation. If Obama is elected you will see change and it will be America turning away from Jesus and the Word of God to the god of this world, but God has placed ministers in position to release the sword to expose the depths of satan. However if leaders who have the t.v. and radio do not speak out then many of the people in the churches will be blinded by race and vote for someone who professes the title of a christian but the devil will use to implement a destructive agenda!

Guess who’s president? hahaha…OBAMA! Can’t wait for the Repeal of DOMA and Don’t ask don’t tell. It’s only a matter of time and it will happen this year. Finally I am being INCLUDED IN A PRESIDENT’S AGENDA AS A TAX PAYING AMERICAN CITIZEN who deserves the SAME EQUAL RIGHTS as someone who CHOOSES their religion. Sexual Orientation is NOT a choice, you fools. GET OVER IT.
