The leading Canadian weekly news magazine, Maclean’s, is on trial in Canadian court system for allegedly violating new ‘hate speech’ laws for ‘daring’ to say that Islam threatened Western values.
Never mind the fact that Islamic terrorists continue to murder people and blow up buildings with implied impunity. Apparently such murder and mayhem is not nearly as ‘bad’ as criticizing a religion that advocates the total conquest and subjugation of all ‘infidels’ (a.k.a. The West).
Has Islamic terrorism impacted the Western way of life? André van Heerden, CEO of Cloud Ten Pictures, the a Canadian Christian film company, thinks so.
In response to the proceedings, Andre van Heerden says, “This is truly scary. And while it’s currently happening here it’s easy to see things changing in the US as well. In our films, such as the Left Behind and Apocalypse series, we portray the antichrist as a bad guy. But what about all those who worship Satan or don’t like God - our good guy? Are we instilling hatred against them? Are we infringing on their rights? Or what if in one of our films someone asks for forgiveness for one of their sins? What if that sin was homosexuality or abortion or even just lust? And isn’t it remarkable that a Christian is arguing against censorship and the liberal left is arguing for it?”
Van Heeden is concerned about exactly what will even be permissible under Canadian law—and soon thereafter possibly in the US–after a decision is rendered in the MaLean’s tribunal. Says Andre, “What is truly scary about limiting someone’s right to free speech is that it’s not based on anything but someone else’s opinion of what you’re saying. As a Christian I believe in something called sin and we’re all guilty of it.”
