Jesus wants you to have a sense of purpose so you can fulfill your destiny. Are you just serving God or are you serving God on purpose? The difference between the former and the latter is…revelation.
Sadly, many Christians are serving God with little or no revelation of their purpose. They love the Lord and dedicate time and money to His purposes, but without a revelation of how their purpose fits into His purpose they may ultimately fail to reach their destiny.
Jesus wants every believer to have a sense of purpose – and for good reason. You see, it is one thing to hear a truth and think you understand it. It is quite another to receive the revelation of a truth and know that you know that you know that you understand it. Once you receive revelation of a thing, whether it be healing, prosperity, or some other biblical truth, it begins to change your life.
The same is true of purpose. Jesus wants every believer to receive a revelation of his or her purpose because revelations bring about true change. When you receive a revelation of your purpose it will begin to govern your thoughts, words and deeds. It will lead you into His perfect will as your life begins to revolve around that purpose.
God has a purpose for everyone, and He is not trying to hide yours from you. Some believers’ purposes seem more evident than others. Some believers have to press harder into God to discover their purpose. Regardless of the level of effort, it is critical that we seek so that we may find.
You see, we can fill our lives doing good things and things that we are good at, or we can fill our lives doing God things, things that fulfill His purpose and enable us to reach our destinies. If you understand your purpose you will fill your life accomplishing what God has planned and purposed for you. It’s that simple.
There are six key points to keep in mind during any discovery of purpose: (1) God is a God of purpose, (2) nothing in life is without purpose (3) not every purpose is known, (4) where purpose is not known, abuse occurs, (5) if you want to know the purpose of a thing, ask the Creator, and (6) God anoints purpose.
Many people go through life having never discovered their purpose. The cemetery is the richest place on earth. In it lies dreams, visions, inventions, songs, talents, arts, creative ideas, and discoveries – all laying waste in the ground because purpose was not discovered.
Many plans, gifts, callings and anointings that God intended to use in restoring the earth to its original state have died with those who carried them to the grave because the individual did not seek after or know his or her purpose. We are the stewards of the gifts and callings that God has placed in our lives. It is our responsibility to manifest them for His glory and purposes. One day we will have to give an account to God for how we used our gifts and talents.
Often times, when purpose is not known, people or things are abused. If a husband does not know the purpose of his wife, he will abuse her. If parents don’t understand that children are the heritage of the Lord and they are to be trained to continue the purpose, plan, and will of God, then they will abuse them. God has a rightful purpose for alcohol and drugs, but most people do not know what that purpose is, so they abuse them.
Purpose is the original intent for a creation by the Creator. In order for us to find our purpose, we must go to God, our Creator. We cannot successfully determine our own purpose. We must discover it in the Spirit. Let me say this again: It is up to us to press into God, to seek Him and discover what purpose He has for us.
Once we make a decision to begin seeking our God-given purpose, the Lord will honor our efforts and do whatever it takes to reveal that purpose to us. He will use any means necessary. He gave us a helper, the Holy Ghost, who knows the will and purpose for our life. Romans 8:27 says the Holy Spirit searches our hearts and makes intercession for us according to the will of God. He will use the five-fold ministry and prophecy to help us find our purpose. He will send dreams and visions. He will do everything He can to make sure that we understand our purpose and that we fulfill it.
Many people want an anointing. It is important to point out that God anoints purpose, and He only anoints people when they are pursuing His purpose. Many people never experience the anointing of God because they never discover their purpose.
Acts 17:24-27 says that the purpose of nations is to seek after God and influence other nations to seek Him. If a nation ceases to fulfill its purpose, there is no reason for it to exist. There are nations in history that can no longer be found. They are long dead and buried because they ceased to fulfill their purpose.
Matthew 24:14 says “The gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations and then shall the end come.” Notice that it says “all the world” not “all the earth.” The Earth is our geographical location. The world is the order of things. As Christians, we are not called to be a subculture. We are called to be a nation of God. We are to infiltrate every world on this planet. That is our overarching purpose.
Practically speaking, we are to bring the Kingdom of God into the sports world, the music world, the political world, the entertainment world, the media world, the Hispanic world, the white world, the black world, and the religious world. We are called to invade what we’ve backed away from because we didn’t think that it belonged to us. We are called to take dominion in the kingdoms of this world.
In order to preach the Gospel of the Kingdom in these worlds, we have to forge into those systems. We have to invade the order of the world’s systems. Just as Jesus was all things to all men without being conformed to the world, we also have to become all things to all men without becoming like them.
Jesus is our prototype. Everywhere He walked, He walked with authority. We are to walk with that same authority. Ephesians 1:4-5 says that He has chosen us and predestinated us before the foundation of the world that we should be holy, or set apart. He has not called us to be like everyone else. He has set us apart for His purpose.
God has a general purpose and a specific purpose for each of us. Adam’s general purpose, for example, was to rule, dominate, and govern the land. He was to be fruitful, multiply, and replenish the earth. His specific purpose was his assignment in the Garden of Eden: to keep, guard, and cultivate the garden. God gave him a woman, a helpmate, because he could not fulfill his purpose alone.
Jesus’ general purpose was to redeem humanity from its sin, to restore all that was lost in the fall of Adam, and to establish the government of the Kingdom of God in the earth. His specific purpose was to go throughout Jerusalem and Judea, preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom and healing all that were oppressed of the devil.
God has given us a specific purpose that we can only discover by seeking after Him and allowing Him to reveal it to us. It cannot be revealed to us, however, until we realize that God’s general purpose for mankind has not changed. If we do not understand Adam’s purpose for creation, we will never fully understand our own purpose.
What Adam lost or failed to fulfill in the fall, God has been trying to restore since Jesus Christ came as the second Adam. If Jesus Christ was sent here to restore all that was lost in the fall of man, and we as the Church are the Bride of Christ, then we are here to help Jesus with His purpose. We are here to help Him rule, reign, and govern the Earth and to bring it back to its original state.
Romans 8: 18-19 talks about the suffering that precedes the glory that will come from the manifestation of the sons of God. Verses 22 and 23 of the same chapter say, “For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now and not only the earth, but ourselves also, which have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.” Our spirits groan at the corruption and violence that is in the world today. We are yearning to become fully manifested sons of God.
The Earth needs us to take our place as the sons of God and join the restoration process.. The groaning and suffering of creation shows in nature through hurricanes, tsunamis, tornadoes, earthquakes, flooding, and other natural disasters. Even the vegetation is groaning. The entire Earth and all of its inhabitants are under the stress of spiritual sin and death.
Romans 8:24- 25 says that we are saved by hope and wait for the unseen with patience. We have a promise from God. Although we have not yet seen a perfect man or a perfect Earth, we wait with perseverance, doing all that we have been taught by the Holy Spirit, because of hope. It is important that we spend time in worship and edification so that God can take us to a place of allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us into victorious intercession. It is in these places in the Spirit that hindrances are broken, revelation given, and purpose discovered.
God and all of creation are crying out for us to understand and embrace our purpose. So I ask you again, are you just serving God? Or are you serving God on purpose?
