Did humans evolve from apes or did God create mankind?
The topic of evolution is making headlines again in the state of Texas – this time in the public school system.
The Texas State Board of Education on Wednesday is holding a hearing on the issue of scientific curriculum for all Texas students.
Among the issues to be discussed is a proposed change in how scientific theories – including the Theory of Evolution – are taught in schools there.
A group of non-elected persons recommended that the State Board of Education eliminate a 20-year policy of teaching the strengths and weaknesses of all scientific theories.
The recommendation is being veraciously supported by a radical left-wing organization that opposes academic freedom, according to the Free Market Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting freedoms and strengthening families in Texas and nationwide.
"I don't know of any respectable scientist who would sacrifice the basic tenets in the progress of science for left wing ideology,” says Jonathan Saenz, director of legislative affairs at Free Market Foundation.
“Saying you can’t teach the strengths and weaknesses of all scientific theories - that's what science is all about - critical thinking and questioning,” Saenz continues. “The Board is being asked to choose between free and open scientific inquiry and censorship; that’s an easy choice.”
Free Market will be testifying today at the State Board of Education urging the board to keep the 20-year policy in place.
Should schools be allowed to teach evolution? Should schools be allowed to teach creation? And does eliminating one or the other violate First Amendment rights? Let us know what you think.
