ACLU Attacks Ten Commandments – Again

The Ten Commandments are under attack from the American Civil Liberties Union yet again – this time in Kentucky.

The Liberty Counsel is fighting back. The counsel filed a brief at the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in defense of the Foundations of American Law and Government display, which includes the Ten Commandments. Liberty Counsel represents McCreary and Pulaski Counties in Kentucky.

Noteworthy is the fact that these are the same cases Liberty Counsel argued at the U.S. Supreme Court in 2005. The cases returned to the trial court following the Supreme Court’s decision, since the High Court only ruled on the preliminary injunction.

“The ACLU’s Ten Commandments clearinghouse agenda will hit rough waters when the case reaches the U.S. Supreme Court," said Mathew Staver, Founder of Liberty Counsel and Dean of Liberty University School of Law. The tide has turned at the High Court.

"Since 2005 the ACLU has lost three consecutive Ten Commandments cases at the appellate court level," Staver continued. "They have refused to ask the Supreme Court to take these cases, because they know that Court is no longer hostile to the Ten Commandments. Anyone with a little background in the history of America knows that the classic example of the rule of law is at home in a court of law.”

The ACLU initially filed suit in 1999 against the “Foundations of American Law and Government” display, which contained the Ten Commandments, the Mayflower Compact, the Declaration of Independence, the Magna Charta, the Star-Spangled Banner, the National Motto, the Preamble to the Kentucky Constitution, the Bill of Rights to the United States Constitution, and a picture of Lady Justice.

In 2005 the U.S. Supreme Court heard the McCreary County v. ACLU case, along with a Texas case, and issued split decisions on the Ten Commandments. In the Texas case of Van Orden v. Perry, the Court upheld a Ten Commandments monument that was on the state capital grounds without any controversy for about 40 years. In the Kentucky case, the Court ruled that the prior actions of the county officials, when they erected a stand-alone display of the Ten Commandments, indicated the county officials had a predominately religious purpose in erecting the displays.

Since that opinion was released, however, the composition of the Court has changed. Justices Roberts and Alito have replaced Justices Rehnquist and O’Connor. It is likely that a different result will be reached if the McCreary case reaches the High Court again, according to the Liberty Counsel. Moreover, since the 2005 decision, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the exact same Foundations of American Law and Government display. The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals also upheld the same display. In both cases Liberty Counsel represented the government agencies.

Why is it that everyone seems to want mans law but not Gods? As soon as we get in a bit if trouble we call on God to help right? We are one Nation under God! We as a people need to quit trying to pimp God. We treat him like a condement we put him on a shelf hiding until we need him, and then put him back when we're done.People seem to believe that the 10 Commandments are good as long as they're not offending anyone. Well with out Gods law there is no order. Further more when have you ever read, seen, or heard of God not wanting to offend. Thats what Christ did when he was on earth. He offended to bring God glory and to create order where there was none.
Lets Stand for whats right and quit being scaredy cat Christians. GOD DID NOT GIVE US DOMINON AND POWER ONLY TO SIT BACK AND ALLOW THE ENEMYS INFLUENCES TO TAKE OVER WHAT GOD HAS GIVEN US!!!!!

We must not just only pray but take action their doing it! Why aren't we? Selah

UNITED WE STAND DEVIDED WE FALL!!

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

To comment (1) I have to say I agree with you whole heartedly. I'm sure you know this, but in answer to your questions of "Why is it that everyone seems to want mans laws but not Gods" well, this shows us how many people there are right here in the USA who live their lives without God in it, but also Christians who sit back and just Take It, like they are suppose to. More need to help us, but it does get discouraging at times, but I will fight on with you my sister. Prayer works, but at this time we need more than prayer, We need to create ACTION, many don't know how to unfortunately, they had better seek out God & Preachers and not just any preacher to get some answers to reach out and stop so many things that we are allowing, by banding together and getting the job done. Every day we are becoming a more socialist country. To God be the Glory for He is in control, but if we are not careful, socialism will take over and God may just allow it because of laziness on our parts.

Not long ago as I was reading my Bible and praying. I said Lord, thank you that I have the mind of Christ. And the Lord said to me, I wish people would stop confessing my promises and start confessing my commandments. I have to say it was quite a shock! But being saved almost 22 years, I realized that I did not know all 10 of them myself. Yes, I am ashamed of that fact, but I did do something about it. I went on line and printed copies of the commandments, and beging confessing them every day. I can say that now I do know them. The Lord keeps taking me back to this subject. Just a few days ago, I was writing a friend about this very thing, and the Lord said to me again; Christians want them posted on every building, but I want them posted on the human heart. Wow! I visited a Church last Wednesday, and as I looked around the room, I wondered, how many of these people really know the 10 commandments? I guess what I am wondering is, have we missed it ourselves? I am in no way trying to offend anyone. When I saw this, I just had to share what happened to me.

Finally somebody said it!! I am in total agreement with comment (2) Many of us "Christians" just sit back and let the devil do what he wants to do or should I say we allow him to without a fight, so he wins by default...and then when we see the manifastations of evil going on and about us we start complaining or we pray. Now, don't get me wrong we are suppose to pray and then "act"!!God is not pleased with whats going on in the world but the only way for things to change is if we (christians-christ in us the hope of glory) take a stand without being fearful just as Jesus did! Jesus did not just pray when he came on earth! He prayed and then went on doing the will of the father was and thats what WE must do! It's time to take a stand and let God do what he's always wanted to do..which is to bring the kingdom of God here on earth...and how is he going to do it but through us!! So yes we do pray and then we act and trust God...
