The worldview of the United States of America as a Christian nation is rapidly changing. Candidate Obama said it, "We are no longer a Christian nation at least not just."
Here is the quote as delivered by the President June 28, 2006: "Whatever we once were, we are no longer a Christian nation – at least, not just. We are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, a Buddhist nation, and a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers."
Factcheck.org argues he didn't intend to say that, claiming, "Unfortunately for Obama, he stumbled just a bit when he delivered the actual quote..." Obama spoke these provoking words during his keynote address to a "Call to Renewal" conference sponsored by the religious left's progressive Christian magazine Sojourners two years ago.
The truth is, this statement is clearly in line with the administration's foreign policy and its outreach to the muslim world. Since 911 and Obama's election as President the doors have widely opened for Islam. Shortly after his inauguration the President began his outreach to the muslim nations of the world. In his speech to a University in Cairo he said, 'I've come here to Cairo to seek a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world, one based on mutual interest and mutual respect, and one based upon the truth that America and Islam are not exclusive and need not be in competition. Instead, they overlap, and share common principles -- principles of justice and progress; tolerance and the dignity of all human beings."
Obama continued in his speech: "As a student of history, I also know civilization's debt to Islam. It was Islam -- at places like Al-Azhar -- that carried the light of learning through so many centuries, paving the way for Europe's Renaissance and Enlightenment. It was innovation in Muslim communities -- (applause) -- it was innovation in Muslim communities that developed the order of algebra; our magnetic compass and tools of navigation; our mastery of pens and printing; our understanding of how disease spreads and how it can be healed. Islamic culture has given us majestic arches and soaring spires; timeless poetry and cherished music; elegant calligraphy and places of peaceful contemplation. And throughout history, Islam has demonstrated through words and deeds the possibilities of religious tolerance and racial equality. (Applause.)
I also know that Islam has always been a part of America's story..."
Consistent with this speech and the next step in the President muslim outreach is the shift in NASA policy when he directed NASA's administrator Charles Bolden to, "find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science and math and engineering."
Despite Islamic terror within the borders, compromise and tolerance for Islam seems to be increasing. For example in New York, 500 feet from Ground Zero a Mosque and Islamic center is said to be built, despite the vehement dissaproval of many non-muslim Americans. In Berkely, California this fall we will witness the launch of the United States' first Muslim college. Classes have already started this summer.
Zaytuna College's motto is, "Where Islam meets America."
The language in some classrooms is Arabic. The college will emphasize a general education in American history, anthropology, philosophy, literature, political science, but a major portion of its required curriculum is devoted to the study of Islam and the Koran.
Imam Zaid Shakir, the founder of Zaytuna and also a professor said in an article, "We want to manifest Islam in a way that's compatible with America."
Is America exchanging Jesus for Allah? Has a nation ever changed its gods?
The only nation that ever changed gods in the Bible was the nation of Israel. They forsook the God of their salvation and followed foreign gods. The result of that was an invasion of the babylonians who pillaged, burned and occupied the holy land.
The Word of God says, "Cross over to the coasts of Kittim and look, send to Kedar and observe closely; see if there has ever been anything like this: Has a nation ever changed its gods? (Yet they are not gods at all.) But my people have exchanged their Glory for worthless idols. Be appalled at this, O heavens, and shudder with great horror," declares the LORD. "My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water" (Jeremiah 2:10-13 NIV).
One can extrapolate several conclusions from these developments. Our President could be a muslim sympathizer honring his muslim roots; or considering the threat of economic depression the administration is reaching out for help from the muslim world to stimulate the U.S. economy; or Islam is using America's very own laws, freedom of religion and freedom of speech to advance its agenda. Whichever conclusion you draw, it comes down to one question: Will America become a Muslim nation?
From George Washington to George Bush, every previous U.S. President believed America to be a Christian nation, founded under Christian principles and virtues. However, under President Obama and the progressive movement America is being turned away from her Lord to drink from broken cisterns that cannot hold water.
