Natural Progesterone: The Miracle Hormone Cure for Women

progesteroneIt is surprising how little the medical community knows about progesterone, especially the consequences of a progesterone deficiency. In many cases, these consequences can be prevented with the use of natural progesterone replacement. It is fairly easy to diagnose women with low progesterone levels because these women are the ones who have PMS, severe menstrual cramps, headaches with their periods, and breast tenderness. They will be estrogen-dominant and very often will wind up with complications such as fibroids in the uterus and fibrocystic disease of the breast.

A recent article in the British medical journal, The Lancelet, indicated that women with fybrocystic disease have a higher incidence of breast cancer. This is not surprising when you consider that fybrocystic disease is found in women with low progesterone levels. Low progesterone levels leads to an over-production of estrogen. Estrogen is known to cause cancer.

In the pre-menopausal woman, administration of natural progesterone eliminates PMS, menstrual cramps, headaches, and breast tenderness. In addition, it helps eliminate migraine headaches and allergies, including asthma. Progesterone prevents weight gain for several reasons. It is thermogenic – it helps fat burn. Progesterone helps the thyroid to function better. And, most importantly, progesterone prevents the over-production of insulin, which is the main hormone that creates fat and keeps fat stored.

For those women who already have fybrocystic disease or uterine fibroids, administration of natural progesterone cream will tend to make these problems disappear. There are 300 different receptor sites throughout the body for progesterone so it is easy to comprehend how important this hormone is. Women with low levels of progesterone often suffer from morning sickness when they’re pregnant and may have problems with miscarriages.

For those women in their menopause, natural progesterone should be the primary replacement hormone and not estrogen as the usual case. Natural progesterone is more beneficial for osteoperosis than is estrogen because it both prevents osteoperosis, as well as helps bone to calcify. Estrogen is damaging to blood vessels, which is the reason why it is not recommended for women with coronary artery disease. Progesterone is very beneficial for blood vessels, and can even prevent coronary artery spasm.

As stated previously, estrogen is known to be carcinogenic. In fact, first year Premarin was released, 60,000 women developed cancer of uterus. This is the reason why women who still have their uterus are given synthetic progestins, such as Provera, to prevent uterine cancer. Estrogen has always been a risk factor for breast cancer, and recently they discovered that Provera doubles a woman’s chance of developing breast cancer. Natural progesterone, on the other hand, helps to prevent cancer of the breast, uterus, and ovaries.

In addition, estrogen and synthetic progestins are lipogenic – they create fat and cellulite. Natural progesterone helps to eliminate fat. Progesterone is the “feel good hormone” for women and helps to enhance a woman’s libido – estrogen does not.

There are several factors I want to leave you with.

1. Preventing Disease

It is a lot easier to prevent disease than it is to treat it. It is very likely that breast cancer can be prevented with the simple administration of a natural hormone.

2. Hormonal Balance

It is extremely important for the body’s hormones to be in balance. A deficiency of one often leads to an over-production of others which can lead to unfortunate consequences. A simple blood panel can determine a person’s hormone status, and the judicious replacement or enhancement of various hormones can allow one to live healthier for a longer period of time.

3. Progesterone is not a drug

One last thing to keep in mind. I realize that people reading this piece would think, “If natural progesterone is so beneficial why don’t we hear about it?” Please keep in mind that business runs this world. Pharmaceutical companies are big business. They cannot patent a natural product and thereby have no interest in natural hormones. Pharmaceutical companies support most of the drug research in this country, which is the main source of articles published in medical journals. This is the reason most doctors are unaware of natural progesterone, or other natural hormones, which can be replaced. This allows Premarin, and drug known to cause cancer and in damaging to blood vessels, to be the largest selling drug in the world.

Having had breast cancer and highly positive receptors, what source does the natural progesterone come from? Are you talking about a supplement, food source? The only preventative medicine they wanted me to take was Tamoxifan..which i refused. its a form of chemo by pill.

Not everyone can take progesterone. I took it over a summer and ended up in the hospital with high heart rate and heart palpitations. So please don't recommend this for everyone, it can be very dangerous.

Jesus is our Healer
written by Corrie, September 23, 2009
I had never heard of HRT so I started surfing the internet. The first few articles I read are all very much against HRT. Ten thousands of women have died from experiments by the pharmaceutical industry. Whatever is wrong in my body: Jesus is my Healer and I listen to Him how to take care of it. The power of Life and death is in my mouth, so I keep my heart above all there is to keep and fill it with His Word.
God loves us!

I also don't think everyone is able to use natural progesterone. I used it for 5-7 years for PMS and ended up with adnomyosis anyway. I read that it can make problems worse in some women.

awesome product
written by Becky, September 27, 2009
I am a former nurse and now a preventive health educator. I have been working with a company that provides a natural progesterone cream for the past 7 years. It is almost criminal that women are the victims of ignorance when it comes to their hormones. Sadly, the medical professional is not going to educate them because THEY are not educated; therefore, I have chosen to educate women concerning hormone balance and share with them the same information that I have read in this article. I have been amazed at how a little bit of cream rubbed on certain areas of the body several days out of the month can take a way major symptoms including hot flashes, PMS, depression, headaches and even endometriosis and fibroid tumors as well as fibromyalgia. It is an amazing product made from a plant!!! and should be offered to EVERY woman who has hormonal issues rather than a synthetic drug that will increase their risk of female cancer. When will the medical profession wake up! I hope and pray it is soon....in the meantime, I will continue to do my part of educating and offering a product that can improve health naturally!
Thanks for this GREAT article!

I just came accross this article, and am thrilled that this information is out there. I feel as though the medical world is not completely "Business" but for the most part it isnt a calling anymore. Dr. John Lee a forrunner of the information in this article, has several books out, and they are truly a in depth reading for more information. I hope and pray that those out there on traditional Meds, read all info that applys, and trust your instincts. I too was told that Tamoxifen was the ONLY answer...and the side effects of this medication is great and with concern. As for testing..there is a saliva test that WILL tell the real truth if you are in a Unbalanced Hormone state! I am a cream user and OFF the meds. I am retraining myself to read labels etc. and understand the ingredients in products I use. Thanks again for this info..God Bless!

Progestorne Myth????
written by estie, October 13, 2009
Researchers at the Institute of Plant Physiology, Polish Academy of Sciences, Krakow, Poland, reported: ,,,,,,
Cholesterol in association with low-density lipoprotein is the primary blood-borne precursor used for the body’s synthesis of progesterone, making raw materials for progesterone production an unlikely problem in most reasonably healthy persons. Once progesterone is synthesised by or introduced into the body, it can, via physiologic conversion in the corpus luteum, ovaries, testes and adrenal glands, be synthesised to all of the hormones, including oestrogens, androgens, and corticosteroids. Adrenocorticotropic hormone, synthesised by the anterior pituitary gland, stimulates the conversion of cholesterol into pregnenolone, the immediate precursor of all steroid hormones, including progesterone. (Biochemistry, L Stryer (Ed), WH Freeman & Co, NY, 1995) In humans, the final step in progesterone biosynthesis is the conversion of pregnenolone to progesterone. Pregnenolone is the precursor of progesterone and DHEA and its inhibition disrupts normal steroidogenesis of these essential steroids and in turn, those of which these are precursors. The corpus luteum produces a number of normalcy regulatory progesterone synthesis inhibitors.

Sutherlandia herb, heavily marketed as a supplement (another informed concern of mine), is a conversion inhibitor of both progesterone and pregnenolone (Prevoo D et al, Endocr Res, 30(4), 2004). An excess of iron, carotene and free radicals inhibit progesterone synthesis, as does a sunlight deficiency. Transdermal progesterone is not a natural alternative to lifestyle excesses and/or deficiencies. Industrial chemists can convert a constituent of Mexican yam diosgenin into progesterone, but only via unnatural chemical pathways. Aberrant progesterone may, through bio-modulation, affect endogenous progesterone production. Despite all of these avoidable lifestyle factors, it is in fact extremely rare to suffer from an oestrogen excess/progesterone deficiency, as claimed by advocates of ‘natural’ progesterone cream. Soon after its purification in 1933, true natural progesterone became widely used in the treatment of luteal-phase dysfunction, which is appropriate for true luteal defects causing decreased progesterone biosynthesis. However, if the defect involved hypothalamic or pituitary dysfunction or disorders of follicular maturation, then initial treatment was more appropriately directed elsewhere, (Ovarian Endocrinology, S Hillier (Ed), Blackwell Sci Publ, Oxford, 1991), a far more responsible approach than that of the progesterone cream cowboys.

Bioidentical hormone balance
written by Hormonally balanced, November 15, 2009
My health has greatly improved since I became (bioidentically) hormonally balanced several years ago. I now have a blog dedicated to BHRT and related women's health issues at holyhormones.blogspot.com, and I am happy to help anyone who writes to me through the blog with finding a compounding pharmacy/doctor in your area who is proficient with bioidentical hormones. Best wishes to all for hormonal health.
