Have you ever reached over on a Monday morning to hit that snooze button one more time? I know I have. Maybe you had a really busy weekend and feel exhausted. Maybe you know that as soon as you arrive at the office, an overwhelming project will await your attention on your desk. We may all have days when we do not feel like getting up for work, but we should always know why we get up and go.

Reductions in Force: What About Those Left Behind?
Few, if any, industries are immune to the global economic recession that has led to millions of lost jobs across the United States. Despite crunching the numbers and considering alternatives, employers are often forced to conclude that layoffs are necessary to keep the business afloat.
Employers need to focus on determining which employees remain vital to execute the company’s critical functions, ensure that protected classes are not disparately affected, notify affected employees in advance as required by federal and state WARN Acts, and have a plan for discharging those employees that maximizes their human dignity and minimizes disruption to business operations, according to Pepper Hamilton LLP, a multi-practice law firm in Boston.
“Employers should also consider their remaining employees, who will watch their friends and colleagues lose their jobs,” says Steven R. London, a partner in the law firm of Pepper Hamilton. “It’s critical to ensure that your remaining employees maintain their morale, and that they stay motivated under the pressure of trying to maintain operations with a decreased workforce. This is a critical, but often overlooked, aspect of any downsizing plan.”Bringing Christianity to a Marketplace in Recession
No, these times are not easy but I have found that by concentrating on some of the Bible’s truths during my workday that it is indeed easier to do it “His Way” than my way. Living in a fallen world is not easy but Jesus promises that if we follow Him that our yoke will be light. Taking these Biblical truths as part of your mantra will do much to help you stay focused on the light of the Gospel and not the noise of this world.
Live in the Truth
We are constantly bombarded with media from television, radio, print, and the Internet with those who seek to tell us that seeking our own interests is the best way or that the Bible is not applicable to our lives today. We are often tempted to believe that much of what Biblical scholars have written is si tuational or cultural. This leads us to falsely thinking that the Word is solely indigenous to the times in which it was written, and in so doing lead ourselves and others further away from what is intended. Therefore I have determined for myself that I will always accept the Bible as the truth knowing, believing, and relying on its timeless precepts. By predicating the entirety of our lives solely on God’s word, we cannot be led astray. A New Perspective on Job Loss
A sudden job loss can be very unsettling, and it makes a person look inside in order to get perspective on their situation. If you follow these seven steps, you will be well on your way to getting back on track with your career – and your life. In fact, you may very well find that you are better off. That job loss could be a blessing in disguise.
Preparing for a Layoff
Layoffs are a common part of today’s business world. It is important for employees to recognize that there is always a chance that your company can be bought, sold, or merged.
It can even implode.
In a market where more emphasis is being put on churning profits than ever before, most companies are susceptible to the occasional takeover. It makes business sense to merge assets; however it’s usually at the expense of the company’s employees.
