Should abortion be a primary agenda for our Secretary of Health and Human Services? Is that the role of this government office?

In a word – no! The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is the United States government’s principal agency for protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services, especially for those who are least able to help themselves.

HHS heads up noble initiatives like preventing diseases, assuring food and drug safety, preventing child abuse and domestic violence, and offering services for older Americans and treatment for those with substance abuse. Nowhere on the list of HHS’s noble deeds did I read about a responsibility – or a right – to aggressively promote abortions.

But that may not matter if Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius, President Barack Obama’s pick for this vital office, is confirmed.
