Sold Out! Bankers Win

Congress approved the $700 billion banker bailout with a final vote of 263-171 in the House. The voice of the people was ignored. The aristocrats have spoken, “Long live the Canaanites, who cares about the will of the peasantry?”

It’s amazing, the tide of calls that flooded the White House, Senators, Congressmen, and anyone that would listen to the voice of the people begging our leadership to “vote no” to the greedy banker bailout – but the bluebloods refused to listen. To make their bailout plan more palatable to us churls they spun the facts, changed the terminology, ramped up fear and bought the votes needed from the weak and timid.

Tea Party Protester Calls Republicans to Carpet
On the first page of your website you have a section that says something to the effect, “tell me what you think.” OK, here it is. How much longer do “we the people” have to sit out here and wait for you to do something? Where is your voice? Where is your spine? Why does a talk show host/entertainer have to do your job? Where is the leadership of the Republican Party in Congress?

If the United States of America survives past 2009 it will certainly not be because the RNC and the congressional leadership stood firm and held news conferences and produced youtube videos, to keep us, the citizenry informed. What a sad state of affairs when the media controls what we get to hear from you, the elected officials. Are you fearful of what they will call you? Have you no power? Do they own you?

Teamwork and Leadership
John C. MaxwellLeadership Inspiration from Nature

Leadership lessons are all around for those who know how to look for them. I’ve observed some- powerful motives for leading through teams from the trees around me.

A few winters ago, parts of the southeastern United States, including Atlanta where I now live, endured a much tougher than usual winter. Following a wet, six-inch snowfall, pine trees made a great parable of the need for teamwork.

Along the roads I noticed that where tall, young pine trees grew in large stands, even though the branches were bowed with the heavy snow, the trunks and branches were able to lean against one another, thus providing support. When the snow melted, those trees that had support sprang back into their usual vertical positions. But where that same species of tree stood alone, the snow’s burden had a much different effect. Branches bent until they snapped. Occasionally, the trunk even split in two. Otherwise healthy, young trees lay broken in the snow.

The Law of Empowerment

law of empowermentBiographers universally agree that personal insecurity factored heavily in the downfall of former American President Richard Nixon. Rather than empowering others, President Nixon clutched at power so tightly that he lost all sense of morality and ethics. Obsessively fearing his critics, Nixon authorized a domestic espionage group to spy on his political opponents. When members of the group were caught burglarizing the Watergate Hotel, Nixon tried unsuccessfully to cover up the incident. Eventually he resigned in shame, having left a dubious legacy of scandal.

What’s Your Leadership “Bailout Plan”?

Successful Leaders Should Motivate, Inspire and Listen During Tough Times

Houston, TX – The financial markets are crashing, banks are folding and economic bailout and stimulus plans abound.  Today, it’s more important than ever for effective leaders to create their own “bailout plan,” using compassion, empathy, honesty and even vulnerability to lead their teams through these tough times.

“No question about it, we are facing one of the worst economic situations in history, and the outlook for the near future doesn’t look better.  Leaders should implement their own ‘bailout plan’ to help motivate and inspire their teams through this serious downturn,” said Laura Lopez, leadership expert and author of the new book, The Connected and Committed Leader.

“In times like this, leaders need to reassure their teammates that things will get better and to solidify their trust. This is not the time to bury your nose in the work and disregard the hallway chats that may seem like unproductive complaining,” Lopez continued.  “The impact of this global economic situation can not be undermined. Leaders must become more like coaches and teachers than drill sergeants.”
